Salary: Appointment will be made on CNM 2 Grade (€61,463 - €77,666) at a point in line with Government pay policy.
Hours of work: Full time, 37.5 hours per week

Position Summary
The Theatre Complex in Beaumont is defined as the following: Operating complex in Beaumont Hospital, Operating complex at St Joseph’s Hospital Raheny, Minor Day Theatre & Procedure Rooms at St Joseph’s hospital, and all associated services and staff to ensure the efficient and safe delivery of Operating and Procedural Services.
Purpose of the Post
The purpose of this Clinical Nurse Specialist (Robotics) post is to deliver care in line with the five core concepts of the role set out in the Framework for the Establishment of Clinical Nurse Specialist Posts, 4th edition, NCNM 2008. The successful candidate will work as a key member of the multidisciplinary team providing a patient / client centred quality service to patients / clients and this specialist practice will encompass a major clinical focus which comprises assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care given to patients / clients and their families. Caseload: The Clinical Nurse Specialist (Robotics) will focus on the following patient / client groups: Urology/ Upper GI & Colorectal Surgeries.
Responsibilities
* The post holder will ensure that professional & national standards are met and will act as a positive role model to junior team members following the NMBI Code of Professional Conduct (2021).
* Acquire and maintain current knowledge on best practice within robotic surgery, improve the overall surgical flow and management of unanticipated circumstances to maintain high quality care and patient safety.
* Maintain a high standard of documentation in accordance with the relevant professional body for Record Keeping.
* Be responsible for planning, implementing and assessing care for a defined caseload as a named Lead.
* Assist in the leadership and development of an identified group of practitioners.
* Maintain a personal, professional profile, identifying role and skill developments.
* Assist in developing, implementing and updating policies, guidelines and protocols with members of the multi-disciplinary team.
* Ensure effective and cost effective management of all theatre resources (both human and material).
* Take responsibility for the cleanliness of the theatre environment and equipment at all times.
* Liaise and cooperate with the wards, other departments and hospital personnel.
* Maintain health and safety of patients, relatives, visitors and colleagues in accordance with hospital policies.
* Assist in maintaining and raising the clinical standard of care through audit and implement changes in best practice.
* Attend daily handover and monthly departmental meetings.
Role Specific
* Develop and lead the robotic surgical team to achieve excellence.
* Be responsible for all surgical cases regarding robotics, robot setup, operation, troubleshooting and handling emergencies.
* Create a standardized training process for the robotic team, ensure competencies for all members, and schedule educational days.
* Responsible for robotic equipment and supplies.
* Coordinate with admissions on scheduling robotic cases within operating theatre specialties.
* Keep robotic skills up to date and provide high quality patient care within the theatre.
* Function as a circulating or scrub nurse in the robotic theatre when required.
* Track robotic instruments life and prevent user error; troubleshoot device failures.
* Ensure all robotic instruments are cleaned per manufacturer instructions on the sterile field.
* Demonstrate proficiency in basic computer software applications.
* Data collection, trend and outcome analysis, and identification of safety concerns.
* Create an efficient urological theatre team and maintain urological preference cards.
* Handover and transfer responsibility of care to colleagues with appropriate information.
* Uphold patient privacy and dignity in theatre; adhere to WHO Surgical Safety checklists.
* Manage drugs as prescribed, following local and national policies.
* Label and dispatch specimens correctly; support infection control and asepsis practices.
* Ensure equipment is cleaned, checked daily and maintained; quarantine and report faulty equipment.
* Participate in revenue capture through timely theatre verification processes.
* Liaise with consultants and Theatre Manager on equipment requirements and current trends.
* Maintain stock levels and rotate/store consumables, instruments, and equipment safely.
* Participate in induction and orientation for staff related to robotic surgery.
* Assist Theatre Manager in staff performance appraisals related to robotic surgery and ensure mandatory training for staff.
* Assess, supervise and teach junior staff; respond to enquiries, concerns and complaints appropriately.
* Participate in incident reporting and audits; develop robust audit systems for robotic service.
* Collaborate with the Theatre Manager in investigations and provide written reports with recommendations.
* Develop care pathways for pre, intra and post-operative care in conjunction with the clinical team.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
* Practice based on the NCNM Clinical Nurse Specialist (Robotics) five core concepts: Clinical Focus, Patient/Client Advocate, Education and Training, Audit and Research, and Consultant.
* Clinical Focus: provide direct and indirect care, liaise with consultants, and deliver comprehensive robotic care.
* Direct Care: provide a specialist nursing service for robotic procedures and coordinate assessments, plans, and MDT involvement.
* Indirect Care: develop referral pathways and contribute to evidence-based peri-operative care guidelines.
* Patient/Client Advocate: support patient/s family decisions, uphold privacy and dignity, and promote patient participation in care decisions.
* Education & Training: maintain competence, educate patients and staff, and develop educational resources and programmes related to robotic surgery.
* Audit & Research: maintain robotics patient registry, KPI data, and contribute to nursing research and service improvement.
* Consultant: lead clinical practice, develop standards, and build MDT collaborations.

Mandatory
* Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc.
* Eligible applicants on closing date: registered in the relevant division of the NMBI; 5 years post-registration experience (2 years in related area); clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to discharge the role; evidence of CPD.
Annual registration with NMBI; PSAC requirement; health and character suitability.
Desirable
* Management/leadership course.
* Minimum 1 year post-registration experience in Robotics.
