Job Overview
The Business Excellence Division within NSAI Certification provides a range of third-party certification activities to a broad range of industry sectors primarily in Ireland. Typically, the certification management schemes delivered to industry include ISO 9001 (Quality Management System), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System), ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management system, ISO 50001 (Energy Management System), 22000FSSC (Food Safety Management System) and ISO 27001 (Information Security Management System). The Business Excellence department also offers independent third-party Environmental Information Statement Greenhouse Gas (EIS:GHG) Verification services for ISO:14064-1 in accordance with the Verification Body accreditation requirements of ISO/IEC 17029, its GHG Sector specific requirements of ISO 14065 and ISO 14064-3 which are the international standards for third party verification.
NSAI competes in Best-in-Class benchmarking audits undertaken by the World Body for Certification/Verification organisations IQNET.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ISO 50001 audits and GHG Verification activities. They will also be responsible for developing and maintaining the internal expertise in certification methodology compliant with energy certification and GHG verification schemes. The person will contribute to the internal expertise certification and accreditation, developing and maintaining the tools and techniques to optimize such processes.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
* Conduct registration, surveillance and recertification activities at client facilities to assess their conformity to the related management system standard(s).
* Perform verification activities for GHG emissions inventories and reports at client facilities, and remotely to determine if the clients Environmental Information Statement (EIS) for Greenhouse Gas is in conformity with the verification standards ISO:14064-1 and relevant GHG reporting protocols.
* Prepare the associated pre and post audit/verification documentation in accordance with NSAI procedures.
* Conduct technical file reviews of audit/verification documentation to support the Business Unit in granting and amending client certifications and verification opinions.
* Conduct internal audits of related areas of NSAI’s Quality Management System.
* Communicate with assigned clients and NSAI staff to ensure efficient audit/verification planning and timely resolution of questions and non-conformities.
* Maintain and expand technical expertise in specific product fields.
* Establish and maintain strong professional relationships with customers.
* Maintain strict confidentiality of matters relating to clients’ operations.
* Promote the Certification/Verification service through the dissemination of information by correspondence, lectures and publications or otherwise as the opportunity arises.
* Train/mentor staff regarding the above
* Training/mentoring of graduate staff
* Undertake travel throughout Ireland and abroad to evaluate applications for Certification and Verification Schemes operated by NSAI.
* Maintain strict confidentiality of matters relating to NSAI and business operations.
* Perform any other duties as may be required by the Head of the Department.
Qualifications and Experience
* University degree (NFQ level 8 or above) in environmental science, engineering, sustainability, or related discipline
* Five years' professional experience in GHG accounting, emissions verification, or related environmental management activities
* Certification as a Energy Auditor or GHG Verifier is highly desirable
* Appropriate certifications for specific auditing functions; minimum one of the following: ISO 50001, ISO 14064-1,3.
* 4 years of documented experience for specific audit/verification types and demonstrated proof of providing these services to other companies with excellent results
* Comprehensive knowledge of national and international GHG reporting standards and protocols
* Broad understanding of emissions quantification methodologies across multiple sectors
* Broad knowledge of domestic and international regulatory compliance laws and regulations, including specific product directives.
* Ability to develop procedures and processes to support the Division
* Ability to provide training to all stakeholders both internally and externally
* Ability to draw up records and reports
* Ability to provide presentations/ training to stakeholders both internally and externally
* Knowledge of management systems and related standards and guidance documents
