PACKING MACHINE OPERATOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR:
· Working as part of the production team to deliver outputs and assisting each other team members for the benefit of all/ Business.
· Daily cleaning of photocells, monitoring machine components, belts bearings chains and reporting any issues immediately. Training on changing the feeder belt, thread and teflon sealing bars will be provided and can be carried out by the operator.
· Retrieve the packing plan and labels from the designated area.
· Locating correct bags in the bag store and organize with the correct labels.
· Ensure there is empty pallets in the empty pallet magazine and cardboard liners in place.
· Set up the required menu on the packing machine and robot as per the production plan.
· Set up the label applicator as per the production plan.
· Check to ensure that the Ink Jet printer (when required) is correctly set up, the check weigher and metal detector are ready.
· Ensure there is an empty bag in the auto sampler.
· Operating the Salt and Bulk Agrical intake system,
· Monitor product feeds and packing machine when operating and check weigh 3 bags per job and record results on plan. If weights are outside tolerance stop the machine and report the issue to the production supervisor.
· Completing all documentation, including quality sheets, production plan, production records, taking and recording samples.
· Completing all details on the packer sheet including reasons for downtime and problems.
· Taking one sample per tonne of product packed and placing in a bag to be taken to the lab. Taking three samples from the first tonne of sheep one from the first bag off and the other two from the middle of the tonne and organize accordingly.
· Complete the unused label reconciliation sheet and return unused labels to the production supervisor.
· Scan finished product onto the ERP system
· Maintaining work area as per the 5S cleaning standard.
· Sweeping up all spillages at the end of every product run and returning part filled bags to the panel for reworking.
· The packing machine operator is responsible for keeping the area under their packing and palletizing machines clean and tidy and all spillages in this area must be removed immediately as they occur.
· The packing machine operator is responsible for the storage areas for empty bags.
· Carrying out all duties in a manner that doesn't put him or other employees at risk. Safety is of upmost importance.
· Must notify the production supervisor if there is a problem with the weights or quality of the product (A lot of problems can be detected visually).
· Must co-operate in full with management and co-employees.
· Returning bags to the bags store and storing in an organized fashion after every run, ensuring the bag store is kept tidy.
· Must check and ensure forklift has diesel, oil and water and maintained in a good condition.
· Ensuring packing areas are tidy and organized before going home after a shift.
· Following standard documented (SOP) production procedures.
· Will train and run the hooder operation as required
· Will train and operate in other areas of the production plant as needed
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
· Standard Leaving Cert. education, with some on the job experience in the above function.
· Valid forklift pallet truck and manual handling certificate.
· Mechanical aptitude an advantage.
· IT competency an advantage

KEY SKILLS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
· Person with the ability to work in an organized fashion, a self-starter and motivated to ensure that finished products are manufactured to spec in a timely fashion.
Additional requirement:
Due to the seasonality of the business it is expected that holidays be taken in so far as possible in the off peak time (April to Aug).
Due to the seasonality of the business the company will require flexibility in the hours of work during the busy period.
After receiving the required training that they will provide cover for any other area as required.
To take part in the daily, weekly and monthly house-keeping plan as outlined in the UFAS plan.
