R&D Manager I
on a permanent basis to join our team.
Job Purpose:
This is an exciting opportunity for an R&D Manager to join the combined Peripheral Vascular/ICtX Centre of Excellence for Sustaining Engineering.
The position will support a significant portfolio of commercial devices in terms of compliance, manufacturing & business continuity as well as market expansion and product development.
It is a high-visibility role that will provide the right candidate with excellent growth and development potential.
The R&D Manager will lead a team of engineers/technicians with responsibility for multiple Sustaining Engineering projects, from development through optimization to maintenance phase of product development.
They will provide technical leadership and management responsibility for product design for a range of complex devices and devote a significant portion of their time to managerial, leadership, organisational and staff development responsibilities.
They will be a key partner to Design Assurance, Project Management, Regulatory, Marketing, Operations & Commercial teams in product sustainment for global products.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead R&D team responsible for a diverse & complex portfolio of products & technologies.
Drive functional excellence initiatives, deliver high quality R&D functional deliverables, and ensure technical excellence for product or technology development.
Lead technical projects of varying complexity ranging from major magnitude and scope to time-bound and production-impacting.
Provide significant guidance and approval regarding technical strategies and approaches.
Provide guidance and training to staff, assist subordinates in attaining career goals, motivate individuals to achieve results, and recruit and maintain a high-quality staff.
Develop and monitor department budgets.
Determine appropriate staff levels, schedules and resources.
Coordinate sessions with project managers/core team leaders to identify opportunities for staff to learn about new initiatives or volunteer on new projects.
Drive the development of department tools and methodologies.
Determine project staff assignments and schedule work to meet completion dates and R&D deliverables; drive accountability to timelines & aid with definition of roles & responsibilities.
Establish cross-functional team relationships & a wide network throughout the global organization.
Provide an overview of the function and role of the group, technical skill sets, to other groups and/or divisions.
Work cross-functionally in identifying and resolving technical issues.
Education & Experience:
Required Qualifications:
Level 8 Honors Bachelor's degree in engineering or related STEM field.
Minimum of 7 years of related work experience.
Minimum of 3 years of direct or indirect management experience with a passion for leadership and team development.
Medical device or regulated industry experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in a technical field.
Experience leading technical teams.
Prior R&D experience, experience within sustaining an advantage.
Regulatory compliance experience in medical devices.
