Job Description
The Environmental Health and Safety Manager will be responsible for leading the day-to-day management of EHS operations, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, and supporting Continuous Improvement to protect people, property, and the environment.
1. Lead the management of EHS operations, including managing a team of two individuals.
2. Oversee proactive safety culture and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation.
3. Support Continuous Improvement initiatives to enhance overall performance.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage the day-to-day operations of the EHS department, including in absence of the EHS Manager.
* Regularly review and update risk assessments, safe operating procedures, work instructions, and site's safety statement.
* Monitor and analyze incident reports and safety metrics; compile daily performance statistics for presentation to the operations team.
* Investigate and document accidents, incidents, and near misses promptly.
* Support managers in developing and implementing corrective actions.
* Manage internal audit program, conduct safety inspections, generate reports, and coordinate with department representatives to ensure timely close-out of findings.
* Identify opportunities for safety performance improvement and support site-wide EHS initiatives in collaboration with the EHS Manager.
* Prepare and support readiness for external regulatory and compliance audits.
* Coordinate safety-related training, ensuring all mandatory and ongoing training needs are met on schedule.
* Maintain and update training matrix.
* Develop and deliver EHS communications, including toolbox talks and safety alerts, to reinforce strong safety culture across the site.
* Manage site emergency preparedness programs, including fire and chemical safety, and workplace vehicle protocols.
* Oversee contractor safety in partnership with the engineering department; deliver contractor training, review documentation, and conduct audits of contractor activities.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills:
* Excellent communication skills both oral and written - clearly explain safety procedures across all levels of the organization.
* Experience managing a team. Able to hit the ground running.
* Level 8 qualification in H&S or related discipline.
* 1-3 years' experience in manufacturing or high-risk environment.
* Manual Handling Instructor certification.
* Train the Trainer qualification.
* Occupational First Aid certification.
* Good attention to detail, excellent administrative, reporting, and literacy skills.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and EHS-related software platforms.
* Self-motivated, capable of working independently and as part of cross-functional team.
* Ability to undertake travel.
