That's why we're dedicated to the development of our employees, so that they can reach their career goals.What you can expect in a typical day:The Contract Specialist is responsible for the management of Service Contractors and Contracts through the full life-cycle (development of contract strategy, sourcing/tendering, negotiations, Terms and Conditions, implementation, maintenance and monitoring), in line with Supply Management policies and guidelines.Key Responsibilities:• Ensure timely and cost-effective fulfillment of the Refinery's service contracting needs, ensuring that quality and safety are achieved, and that commercial and operational risk are minimized/mitigated.• Support the Business in sourcing, selecting and prequalifying Contractors and bidding/awarding major service Contracts.• Manage Commercial contracts including tracking and evaluation of interim applications, remeasurement of work, evaluation of claims and variations and settlement of final accounts.• Manage audits of Contract compliance and Supplier Performance• Drive continuous improvement efforts to maximise value/savings, minimise risk, and to optimise and streamline the contracting process.• Manage commercial aspect of on-site Construction/Craft Labour Service Contracts.• Execute and manage the contracting process (develop strategy, source/ tender, negotiate and implement terms and commercial management).• Comply with relevant policies, standards and key procedures and minimize risk and cost exposure.• Build strong networks and attain the highest level of customer service.• Agree Unit Rates & package prices, control of all interim accounts and variations/change orders and settlement of Final Accounts.• Develop and execute contracting strategies e.g. T&M, Cost-plus, Fixed Fee, Lump sum, Unit based, etc.• Understand Cost models and use these to challenge costs.• Manage any post-award contract disputes and resolve any issues (pricing, quality, timing, claims, liens, etc.).• Manage Contractor performance review programme; Audit Contract compliance and work to integrate best practices and lessons learned.• Advise and assist in the review and preparation of scopes of work.• Prepare tender documentation including pricing mechanisms.• Drive formal tender/RFI process.• Prepare contract documents incorporating the outcome of all negotiations, clarifications and qualifications.• Implement new contracts and ensure effective hand over to Contractor.• Manage stakeholder communications regarding Contract changes.What you'll need to succeed:• Excellent commercial acumen and negotiation skills.• Proven technical skills in the development and execution of negotiation strategies as well as contract implementation, planning & execution.• Strong project management skills with the ability to establish priorities, manage to planned outcomes and clearly document & communicate results.• Strong analytical, fact-based problem-solving skills.• Advanced contract drafting skills with working knowledge of Commercial Contract Law and its use in establishing contracts and negotiating settlements.Professional skills:• Demonstrated competency in sourcing and contracting practices, negotiation and commercials knowledge and understanding of commercial frameworks and contract terms and conditions.• Highest standards of ethical integrity.• Proven self-motivator who sets clear direction and priorities.• Ability to coordinate multiple activities, prioritise tasks, respond quickly to stakeholders and resolve conflicts in an efficient manner.• Demonstrated ability to develop wide and diverse networks and to foster effective teamwork and collaboration.• Innovative and responsive with a passion for continuous improvement.• Working knowledge of Supply Management technologies (e.g. ERP, e-Sourcing).Education and experience:• 5-10 years' experience in:o Sourcing and Contracting Experience in an Engineering/Construction environment.o Quantity Surveying methodologies in management of Construction & Engineering contracts.o Experience of rated contracts, fixed price contracts, claims handling, final account settlement etc. and of high complexity/high risk contracts.o Contract drafting and negotiation of contract terms.o Market knowledge of Contractor capabilities & technical understanding of the services being contracted for.Application Process:Please email your CV to rionna.o' by close of business Friday, 7th November 2025.Irving Oil supports a diverse and inclusive work environment and welcomes applications from all qualified applicants.
