Location: The Irish Times HQ, Dublin (Hybrid working available)
Contract: Fixed-term, 3 years (with potential for extension)

Responsibilities
* Leadership: Lead and motivate a newly created section – composed of photographers, videographers and editors – to creative excellence. Supported by a deputy and desk editors. Clear goals and strong teamwork are key elements for success.
* Management: Reduce administration and prioritise creative output in this new department. Assess workflows, technology tools and output volume to ensure efficient operation. Final responsibility for rostering and planning, and attending editorial meetings to keep colleagues informed of the department’s work.
* Creativity: Balance ambitious innovation with day-to-day journalistic needs. With the team, commission, edit and publish photos and videos, ensuring high production values and elevating our visual journalism.
* Impact: Responsible for production and promotion of visual journalism online. Work with the audience unit to maximise impact of video and photography, and with digital development and technology teams to improve user experience. Staff should be familiar with analytics and use these insights to serve our audiences.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess: visual flair and imagination; sound journalistic judgment; strong organisation skills; comfort with new technologies; experience in management and motivation of staff; a track record of reorganisation; and a proven ability to deliver projects. A background in visual media production is an advantage but not essential.
