Fire Protection Construction Manager

Scope of the Role
As part of the Mercury team, the Construction Manager owns the project execution for the fire protection systems. You will report to the Operations/Contracts Manager and set specific goals that align with overall project objectives. Your primary responsibility is to ensure that the project is built in accordance with the scope, schedule, and budget as outlined in the project programme. While the package lead is the project manager for a given scope, your role is the “on‑the‑ground management” of the trades. You are also responsible for coaching and mentoring junior personnel.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure a safe working environment for all people under your management.
Establish the detailed scope for the project.
Manage project changes diligently; maintain a verifiable paper trail for all changes.
Act as the Mercury manager for all scope associated with fire protection on this project.
Ensure all work is planned and executed in strict alignment with the programme schedule.
Work with the design team to ensure that all materials, designs and equipment are available ahead of need.
Drive the weekly and daily work plans.
Ensure all personnel understand what “change” looks like, that changes are costed and approved before work commences.
Collaborate with planning to develop a schedule that meets client needs and delivers milestones ahead of schedule.
Understand the scope and design in detail, ensuring clarity with Client, Main Contractor and Design department.
Own schedule execution with the Fire Protection Team, developing a “Last Planner” level of detail schedule.
Monitor and report internal and external project progress.
Maintain a > 0.99 % first‑time quality on all works.
Ensure all team members have required training and are committed to the IFW philosophy on site.
Safety
Lead by example in all aspects of safe working and ensure leadership team follows suit.
Review safety indicators weekly across supervisors and foremen, aiming to beat all safety goals.
Project Controls Skills
Demonstrate full understanding of all elements of project delivery, including start‑up, execution, and ramp down.
Control scope changes and monitor progress against schedule and project indicators.
Report quality and safety indicators in line with overall programme indicators.
Ensure project remains in control at all times.
Essential Criteria
At least 5 years’ experience managing construction projects and multidisciplinary teams.
Capability in construction delivery within specialised industrial sectors such as Life Sciences, Pharma, Mission Critical & Data Centres.
Proven track record of promoting and ensuring exemplary health and safety standards.
Ability to contribute to project implementation and delivery.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
