Power Electronics Design Engineer (Principal) - Direct Employment in Ireland
We are seeking an experienced Hardware Design Engineer (Principal) with expertise in architecture & circuit design for switching mode power supplies (SMPS).
You will be the key decision-maker for optimal circuit solutions, collaborating on designs for SMPS and isolated inverters for medical and railway applications. You will oversee the entire development process, from specifications and topology decisions to magnetic design, series development, and production support.
Your deep knowledge of switch mode power electronics and control theory will be crucial for creating innovative solutions. While firmware design is not required, a strong understanding of control theory is highly beneficial. This role suits individuals passionate about sharing knowledge and mentoring, with potential for future team management roles in Ireland.
Your Key Responsibilities:
1. Innovation: Stay updated on emerging power electronics technologies, proposing improvements.
2. Power Supply Design: Lead development of digitally controlled power systems tailored to customer needs.
3. Component Selection: Choose semiconductors, transformers, and capacitors to optimize performance.
4. Control Theory Application: Apply control algorithms for stable power supply operation.

8. Design-for-Manufacturing and Cost: Collaborate on cost-effective, manufacturable designs.
9. Failure Analysis: Conduct FMEA and troubleshoot during testing phases.
Your Qualifications:
* Master's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or related field; Bachelor's accepted with strong Power Electronics, Math, Physics knowledge.
* Extensive experience in power electronics and supply design.
* Experience with isolated converter development preferred.
* Knowledge of analog electronics, control theory, and industry standards.
* Familiarity with EMC/EMI mitigation and simulation tools (e.g., SPICE).
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
