Join our dedicated group where we are responsible for the design delivery, and support of high-voltage overhead line and underground cable projects—up to 400 kV—for ESB Networks, EirGrid, and other key clients. Our work directly strengthens Ireland’s electricity infrastructure and directly supports ESB’s Net Zero 2040 strategy, enabling a more resilient and sustainable energy future.
The Senior Civil or Structural Engineer will play a key role in the delivery of engineering projects for ESB. This role involves close collaboration with design teams, ESB partners, and Contractors to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
Lead civil or structural design from feasibility through detailed design for infrastructure projects
Manage engineering works packages: scope definition, procurement, technical assessment and commercial oversight
Conduct due diligence of internal and external designs to ensure compliance with relevant specifications
Develop and maintain design risk assessments for all engineering deliverables
Mentor and support junior staff development, cultivate technical capability across the group
Co‑ordinate with internal and external stakeholders to progress projects through all lifecycle stages and governance gates – from concept stage through to construction
Experience and Qualifications
Level 8 Engineering Degree or equivalent
Minimum 5 years of relevant civil and / or structural engineering experience
High level of specialist expertise and strong technical capability in civil or structural engineering
Proven ability to manage significant projects or key aspects of projects
Strong commercial and project management skills
Strong safety awareness and communication skills
Valid driver's license for ROI, access to a car, and flexibility to travel nationwide
Chartered status or working towards it in a recognised professional institution
Experience in utility or linear infrastructure projects
Familiarity with FIDIC Conditions of Contract or similar
Experience in performing the role of designer and / or PSDP on projects
Location
This position will be based in ESB E&MP’s Offices in Dublin o r Eastgate Cork .
