Radiology Nurse - UPMC Waterford Location: UPMC Whitfield Hospital Job type: Permanent Overview of role: The Radiology Nurse is a key member of the hospital clinical team whose primary role is the assessment, planning and care of patients who undergo diagnostic, interventional, therapeutic procedures and related activities within the organisation.
The Radiology Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing skills in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care for assigned patients within UPMC Whitfield Hospital.
The Radiology Nurse will work within their scope of practice, whilst supporting the multi-disciplinary team to ensure compliance with regulatory agency standards (HIQA) and accreditation standards (ISO and CHKS).
This is achieved through surveillance, effective prevention and control activities specific to a variety of practice settings, and accurate reporting.
The Radiology Nurse will assist in developing and implementing program initiatives, policies, and education related to nursing practice in Radiology for associates and patients.

Risk Management/Quality Assurance Compliance Participates in the readiness for compliance of quality care delivery pathways in accordance with JCI, CHKS and HIQA, alongside the CNM1 and RSM.
Participate in hospital performance improvement activities & helps to develop unit performance plan Contributes to the development of Hospital wide policies and procedures, relevant to radiology nursing.
Ensures that the nursing staff are educated on relevant policies, procedures, SOP's and implements them.
Engages in regular policy review and liaises with the Quality Team and Nursing Team for guidance.
Participates in Quality meetings, Nursing Team meetings and in-services days for specialised equipment.
Participates in development and maintenance of infection prevention and control measures throughout the department and UPMC Whitfield Hospital as a whole.
Contributes to the achievement of targets guided by National and Hospital clinical metrics and KPI's.
Responsibilities Works alongside the CNM1 and RSM to ensure excellent nursing care of patients in the department Participates in the roll out and maintenance of UPMC Whitfield Hospital Strategic plan, specific to the Radiology department.
Participates in quality control, quality assurance & IPC programs in the Radiology Department, assisting the CNM1 to ensure a quality service is being provided & to identify failures in quality as they occur.
Care provided is in-line with the local, National and International PPPG's.
Assists the CNM1 by ensuring the department is safe and sanitary, throughout the department, reporting any issues to the CNM1 and / or Household management team.
Participates in the training provided for Emergency Care of patients, includingequipment readiness and Standard Operating Procedures in place and adhered to.
Participates in accordance with UPMC Whitfield Hospital 's goals and objectives as follows: Must provide high-quality nursing care & smooth running of the unit Liaises with CNM1 / RSM for determining work assignments and scheduling to include the implementation of alternative work schedules as required.
Possesses up to date knowledge of clinical procedures and practices.
Responsible for ensuring a safe working environment for staff, patients, and relatives.
Reports and escalates any issues of clinical concern using the Q-Pulse Incident Management system.
Maintains confidentiality of patients, relatives, and staff issues always, in line with GDPR guidelines.
May be required to work shifts on a rotational basis, Maintains a working knowledge of medication, anticipated side effects & usual dosage up to date by completing mandatory HSELand Medication Management module yearly and UPMC Whitfield Hospital medication management training.
Coordinate patient procedures with ancillary departments to ensure efficiency & service quality.
Maintains own clinical nursing practice up to date and ensure nursing care is evidenced-based and based on quality standards.
Escalates to CNM1 if the condition of existing equipment requires reporting to Facilities / Biomedical Engineers / Radiology Services Manager for action.
Assist in ensuring that risk assessments are undertaken to comply with all relevant health and safety regulations including the ionising radiations regulations - and participating in nursing risk assessments as necessary to ensure compliance.
The post-holder will be responsible for the use of high tech patient monitoring equipment.
The post holder will be responsible for organising a caseload of patients - and ensure the smooth running of the lists requiring nursing support.
Ensures stock management and rotation in line with Lean Six Sigma Principles.
Works alongside Procurement and Stores staff to ensure good stock rotation Professional Accountability and Development Provide a supportive and learning environment in Radiology, which enables the educational and professional development needs of all staff and students.
Work within NMBI Scope of Practice and comply with the NMBI Code of Professional Conduct.
Comply with all Mandatory Training, as identified by UPMC Whitfield Hospital.

All employees are expected to remain flexible to meet the needs of the hospital, which may include floating to other departments to assist as the patient needs fluctuate Qualifications & Experience: Education Basic BSc Nursing General (Post-graduate qualification preferred but not essential) Registration/Licensing Be registered in the general division of the Register of Nurses maintained by NMBI ACLS / PALS (or be willing to undertake same) IV Cannulation (or be willing to undertake same) Excellent communication skills Medication Management and IV medication administration Contrast administration (preferred not essential) Experience Minimum 3 years experience as Registered Nurse in the acute hospital setting 1 year Radiology experience preferred but not essential.
Knowledge/ Skills / Abilities IT literate in all Microsoft Office suites (Word/Powerpoint/Excell etc.)
Teaching/assessment and presentation skills (preferable but not essential) Proficient in Cannulation Certified in BLS Other Organisation and negotiation skills Knowledge regarding quality improvement /standard of care within practice area Effective Communication skills.
