Design at Pennylane
Design sits at the centre of our mission and its purpose is to deliver an accessible, seamless, and enjoyable experience for our two main users. Our team of 40+ product designers works across different tracks that are divided into cross‑functional squads, each consisting of engineering, product, and design. Autonomy, trust, and transparency are the key values upon which our culture is built, and this is directly reflected in how our designers operate on a day‑to‑day basis. Designers are expected to actively contribute from defining the problem space, to research and testing.
Team and Context
We are seeking a Senior Product Design Manager for the Accounting Track, with a strong strategic and design mindset, and extensive experience working in complex product environments. The role requires proven experience working directly with C‑level executives and executive committees, the ability to simplify complex topics, communicate clearly with senior stakeholders, and effectively influence high‑stakes discussions. The Senior Product Design Manager will report directly to the Accounting Head of Product and will mentor and lead a team of three Product Design Managers, overseeing 15 Product Designers at the track level. The position may also involve managing a few individual contributors from newly created tracks while the organisation stabilises. The role is based in Paris but the team is remote‑friendly, with occasional meetings in Paris every two months.
Your Key Responsibilities
Define Product Strategy & Design vision.
Refine and update the Product Strategy at the Accounting track level in close partnership with the Accounting Head of Product and the Accounting Head of Engineering.
Shape, promote, and spread the Product Design vision and the design culture at Pennylane and beyond, in close collaboration with the rest of the Senior Design management and the Design Ops Team.
Represent design in executive forums and act as the voice of our users to the board.
Contribute to strategic initiatives and company‑wide bets with other leaders.
People Management
Lead and mentor a team of three Product Design Managers, overseeing 15 Product Designers and staying close to the product & craft work of the designers at the track level.
Help the team balance speed, quality, and design consistency, always focusing on JTBD and business goals.
Design Team Leadership
Co‑animate the Design Committee and design rituals with other Design Leaders; own hiring, onboarding, performance follow‑up, career development processes, and all other transversal design initiatives at company level.
Partner closely with other Design Leaders, cross‑functional partners, and the HR team to hire, develop, and retain design talent in alignment with the growth trajectory of our organisation.
