Staff Nurse Endoscopy To work as a valuable member of a skilled nursing team at the hospital endoscopy unit, providing high-quality care for patients and their families. To develop and maintain effective relationships with multidisciplinary team members and work closely with nurses to enhance practice within the unit through evidence-based care. This is a permanent part-time position, working 22 hours per week. * Ensure that all medical equipment such as endoscopy monitors, suction apparatus, diathermy machines, light source, and photographic printer are in good condition and properly maintained. * Update the Endoscopy register and verify patient details with PIMS to ensure accurate entries into the Endoscopy machine. * Monitor safe and economic use of supplies, considering budget implications and implementing cost-effective care and treatments. * Familiarize yourself with stock management at ward level and access/order stock during work and out-of-work hours while maintaining adequate stock levels. * Attach patients to monitoring equipment and oxygen, positioning them correctly for treatment. * Assist anaesthetists and consultants with drug preparation and necessary checks. * Adhere to the "time out" policy. * Support nurses during biopsies, ensuring patients' safety and observing airway and vital signs. * Verify biopsy specimens and laboratory forms with another nurse to ensure correct patient information. * Complete relevant documentation after procedures by consultants, anaesthetists, and nurses. * Transfer patients back to Day Surgery accompanied by a nurse and hospital attendant. * Follow policies for processing and cleaning scopes. * Ensure specimens and laboratory books are delivered to the lab and checked with laboratory staff. * Record start and finish times for each procedure, including anaesthetists' names, on the PIMS system. * Comply with Medication Management Policy regarding DDA's. * Submit necessary reports to the Director of Nursing. * Mentor new clinical and non-clinical staff. * Provide guidance and support to colleagues when needed. * Liaise with affiliated nurse education departments to develop and maintain UPMC Kildare Hospital as a recognized Learning Environment. * Develop effective communication and interpersonal relationships with multidisciplinary team members for collaborative working practices. * Support the unit manager in meeting responsibilities set by the Unit Manager or Director of Nursing. * Maintain high standards of written and verbal communication. * Be familiar with ABA publications, including the Scope of Practice Framework and Code of Professional Misconduct. * Pursue ongoing professional registration and submit verification to HR yearly. * Stay updated on departmental and hospital-wide policies, particularly Clinical Risk Reporting, Health and Safety, Facilities Management, Patient Moving and Handling, Resuscitation/Basic Life Support, Departmental Financial & Budgetary Controls, Patient Complaints procedure, Falls Management programme, and accreditation standards. * Risk assess the unit environment to ensure patient, relative, and staff safety. * Report accidents, incidents, or complaints according to Hospital Guidelines and Policies. * Liaise with the Scheduling Team for patient bed and theatre slot allocation. * Participate in research and evidence-based practice for patient benefit. * Contribute to a supportive learning environment for staff development. * Understand and comply with statutory rules, guidelines, and legislation.
