Senior Technical Underwriter – AXA Ireland
AXA Ireland is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Underwriter dealing with our Commercial Property and Casualty business. Reporting to the Commercial Technical Underwriting Manager, you will support the implementation of underwriting standards in AXA Ireland as an expert in the relevant classes of business in line with stated risk appetite.
What you’ll be doing
* Document risk appetite for each class of business and continuously review it.
* Produce reports with clear findings and recommendations on products, underwriting footprint and market opportunities.
* Identify new product and/or process opportunities to improve products and strengthen underwriting rules to reduce claims and improve customer experience.
* Manage smaller non-material classes of business/product/scheme offerings.
* Review and develop product wordings to adapt to changes in the trading environment and AXA Group requirements.
* Engage with Reinsurance and providers to maintain required coverage; collaborate with AXA Group and other AXA entities to share expertise.
* Use portfolio analysis to identify areas of concern and develop action plans.
* Develop and deliver underwriting training programmes for sales and underwriting staff on product features, acceptance rules, rating and risk appetite.
* Work with Trading Underwriting and Claims teams to ensure effective implementation of underwriting standards.
* Act as business lead or underwriting subject matter expert on cross-functional projects.
* Serve as a point of referral for complex technical queries from staff, brokers and partners.
Qualifications
* A minimum of 6 years' experience in a risk acceptance and rating environment with knowledge of market trends.
* CIP Qualified essential; MDI or ACII desirable.
* Proven experience in decision making on a wide range of technical underwriting scenarios.
* Ability to develop strong relationships with a focus on professional standards and delivery in technical underwriting.
* Strong negotiation, influencing and interpersonal skills.
* Pragmatic decision-maker with good analytical and numerical reasoning.
* Sound understanding of the insurance market and our suite of Commercial products.
* Experience of working in teams with a proven delivery record.
* Excellent relationship management skills and ability to build long-term internal and external relationships.
* Strong customer advocacy with an understanding of the impact of underwriting standards on customer journeys and staff.
Note: This role is an allocated Controlled Function under Fitness & Probity Regime, which means the successful candidate will be subject to enhanced background screening requirements. You must be eligible and authorized to work in Ireland.
