Position Title: Youth Worker

Crosscare delivers services with a servant leadership ethos. Crosscare’s Homeless, Youth, Information and Advocacy Teams support those most in need with Love, Respect and Excellence. Crosscare exists to support individual and families when they face difficult challenges in life and when they find it hard to get the help they need. Crosscare focuses on helping people when they need it most or when they can’t find support anywhere else.

The Den Finglas Youth Service


Work Schedule

18.5 hour full-time flexible working week including 2 evenings and occasional weekends, as required, to meet the needs of the service.

Occasional weekend work may be required.

Reporting to

Project Manager


Role

To deliver Youth Programmes targeted at young people aged 10‑24 year old. Focusing on young people identified as most in need in Finglas south. Collaborate with other relevant agencies to provide meaningful and experiences for young people.


General Responsibilities

* Implement programmes in line within funding requirements
* Spend 70% of working hours in direct contact with young people, with an emphasis on disadvantaged young people
* Ensure organised programmes fit within the Youth Work Process and Models of Youth Work
* Work a minimum of two nights per week
* Provide outreach and support young people to engage in mainstream Youth Work and other community services
* Work in partnership with other Youth Officers to design, implement and evaluate project activities
* Organise seasonal programmes for young people to engage, e.g. Summer programme
* Attend and participate in staff meetings within the service
* Represent Finglas Youth Service at various committees when requested
* Submit all paperwork within specified time period
* Apply for relevant grants in consultation with your Line Manager
* Work within the ethos and values of Crosscare
* Implement the Crosscare Strategy
* Attend relevant training
* Manage challenging behaviours and situations
* Collaborate with the existing team
* Carry out any other duties assigned by your line manager
* Develop and maintain positive community relationships


Qualifications

* Third level qualification and experience in youth work with high‑needs young people who may present challenging behaviour
* Strong interpersonal skills
* Ability to work as part of a team and one‑to‑one
* Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with young people, parents and the wider community
* Excellent organisational, time‑management and record‑keeping skills
* Ability to be proactive, use initiative and work effectively in a challenging environment
* Positive and flexible approach to teamwork
* Ability to follow organisational guidelines and processes
* Good computer skills: Word, Excel, Internet, PowerPoint and social media use to engage young people
* Facilitation and group work skills


Other

Have an understanding of the work Crosscare provides in Finglas and a commitment to the purpose of Crosscare, and to work within the values, policies and procedures of the organisation.

Act regularly in a professional manner at all times.

Engage and participate in regular supervision with your line manager.

Be familiar with the UBU funding and reporting stream.

Driver's Licence and bus licence are desirable.
