We are currently inviting applications for Sawmill Production Operators / General Operatives to join our busy production team. This is a hands-on role within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, operating modern machinery as part of continuous production lines.
The Role
As a Production Operator, you will be responsible for safely operating and maintaining production equipment, ensuring quality standards are met, and supporting the efficient flow of material through the sawmill.
This role reports to the Area Production Supervisor.
Hours of Work
This position operates on a rotating weekly shift pattern:
Monday – Thursday
* Morning Shift: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
* Evening Shift: 4:00 p.m. – 12:00 midnight
Friday
* Morning Shift: 7:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
* Evening Shift: 3:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Shifts rotate weekly (one week mornings, one week evenings).
Please note: it is not possible to work permanent mornings or permanent evenings.
Key Responsibilities
* Follow written and verbal work instructions, including radio communication
* Set up and adjust machinery using menus and recipes to optimise performance
* Monitor production flow and manually intervene when required (turning, removing or rejecting boards)
* Clean, inspect and maintain equipment, identifying and reporting faults to supervisors or maintenance
* Check board quantities in finished and work-in-progress bales
* Accurately enter production data into the ERP system and prepare bale labels
* Maintain a safe, clean and organised work area
* Where trained, operate mobile equipment to:
* Prepare loads for dispatch based on pick lists, or
* Sort and pick logs according to work instructions
Performance & Standards
Each production area operates against specific Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). These will be clearly communicated and supported through training and supervision.
Experience & Skills
* Previous experience is not essential – full training will be provided
* Preference may be given to candidates with a demonstrated aptitude for:
* Mechanical or technical work
* Construction or building-related work
* Farm or agricultural work
* Practical experience gained through work placements or modules during education
* A strong focus on safety, teamwork, reliability and attention to detail is essential
