Clare Cultural Companions

Clare Cultural Companions was launched in 2018 and has now up to 550 active members. This project has proven effective in alleviating loneliness, especially in rural areas, and in building social capital among older people.

This is a vibrant social initiative designed to help older people in County Clare connect with others who share an interest in arts, culture, and volunteering. It’s part of the Age & Opportunity Arts Initiative, supported by Clare County Council, and funded by the Creative Ireland Programme.

They are currently looking for volunteers to join the group in order to promote this project and be part of the organisation committee to plan events.

* Create and distribute event guides.
* Assist with listing a calendar of events every 2 months.
* Attend planning meetings.
* “Meet and greet” members at events.
* Encourage participation and help build confidence in attending events.

If you would like to get involved with a group keen to explore all cultural events please contact Dolores on 065 6 845517 or email dolores@volunteerclare.ie

Sanctuary Runners Clare 2025

Sanctuary Runners was set up to enable Irish residents to run alongside, and in solidarity with, migrants, asylum seekers and refugees thereby fostering friendship, positivity and respect while bringing greater awareness to the migration system.

The Sanctuary Runners Movement is committed to providing a friendly, supportive, safe, genuine and welcoming environment for all participants and expects everyone to treat each other with respect and courtesy.

They have now groups up and running in Clare and are looking for volunteers with an interest in jogging/running to get involved.

They meet on a Sunday afternoon at 3pm for 1 hour to do gentle exercise. This is a great way to meet new people and make new friends whilst staying healthy.

* Join the core team to support the groups expansion.
* Reach out to international protection applicants, migrants and others who are new to your community.
* Arrange a location and time for your group's regular runs.
* Wear the Sanctuary Runners t‑shirt at events throughout the year.
* Promote your group using social media, local press and printed materials in the community.

If you have an interest in running and would like to be involved in this inclusive project please contact Dolores on 065 68 45517 or email dolores@volunteerclare.ie
