MTU is seeking a person with suitable experience to fill the role of Senior Data Insights Analyst in our Institutional Research team within the Corporate Services Department to strengthen the Universitys capacity and capability in analysis of data, production of dashboards, and identification of actionable insights to support decision-making. Purpose of the Role: The Senior Data Analyst will develop, maintain, and enhance MTUs analytical services and reporting frameworks. The role will translate complex data into actionable insights, support statutory and regulatory reporting, and help build a culture of data stewardship and self-service analytics across MTUs campuses. The post holder will work closely with colleagues in Corporate Services, Academic Faculties, the Registrars Office, Finance and Operations, IT Services, and other internal stakeholders. Location, level and relationship within management structure: This post can be based in either the Cork or Kerry Campus but may involve some travel between both campuses. The successful candidate will be reporting to the Chief Corporate Officer and work closely with the Director of Strategic Data Projects, both of whom are based currently on the MTU Cork campus. Line management arrangements may be updated in line with MTUs requirements at the discretion of the President of MTU. Duties and responsibilities of the position: 1. Analytics, Insights & Reporting Design, build and maintain high quality dashboards, reports and analytical models that provide accurate, timely, and actionable insights to operational teams, senior management, and executive leadership. Conduct exploratory, statistical, trend and comparative analyses to address strategic and operational questions. Translate complex analytical findings into clear, concise narratives and recommendations for non-technical stakeholders. 2. Data Management, Quality & Governance Work with large, complex corporate datasets across domains such as student lifecycle, research, finance, HR and operations. Contribute to the development, documentation, and communication of common metrics, definitions, and performance frameworks to ensure institutional consistency. Support data quality initiatives, data validation processes, and the development of data stewardship practices. Promote and uphold data governance, data protection, privacy, and ethical standards in line with MTU policies. 3. Strategic & Regulatory Support Support MTUs strategic priorities including student success, equality and inclusion, research impact, resource planning, and financial sustainability. Contribute to sectoral, statutory and regulatory reporting requirements as needed (e.g., HEA returns, quality reviews, strategic KPIs). 4. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement Work closely with administrative and academic units to understand data needs, translate requirements into fit for purpose solutions, and ensure alignment with institutional objectives. Coordinate cross campus collaboration to promote consistent reporting standards and shared approaches to analytics. 5. Automation, Data Architecture & Systems Support the development of robust data models and reusable analytics assets to enhance MTUs analytical ecosystem. Contribute to the optimisation and automation of recurring reporting processes and the monitoring of data refresh cycles. Work with IT Services, data engineers, and system owners to ensure availability, integrity, and documentation of data sources. 6. Training, Documentation & User Enablement Develop training materials and deliver workshops to support users independent use of dashboards and analytical products. Provide advice and guidance to stakeholders on interpreting analytics and integrating insights into decision making. Maintain comprehensive documentation on developed solutions, processes, and data definitions. 7. Project Support Assist in planning, executing, and monitoring analytics related projects to ensure high quality and timely delivery. Contribute to emerging initiatives involving predictive analytics, forecasting, and advanced modelling where appropriate. Essential Criteria for the Role: Bachelors degree in Data Analytics/Statistics, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. At least 5 years relevant work experience in data analytics, business intelligence, institutional research, or a comparable environment. Experience with dashboarding and analytics platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, Microsoft Fabric or comparable technologies. Experience with statistical, predictive or forecasting techniques. Demonstrable experience designing, building, and maintaining dashboards and/or other analytical solutions in a large organisation. Evidence of strong attention to detail and experience of processes and approaches to ensure accuracy of outputs in a workplace environment Evidence of the ability to work independently and as part of a team. DesirableQualifications/Experience: Experience working with data in higher education, the public sector, or research-intensive environments. Familiarity with enterprise administrative systems and data (e.g., student records, finance, HR systems). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex analysis clearly to non-technical stakeholders, including senior colleagues. Experience with SQL, DAX, M, Python, R or similar analytical languages/tools. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Terms of the Appointment: Salary Scale: Grade VII: €60,611 - €63,825 per annum (Points 1 to 3) Fixed-term whole-time to 31st December 2028, 35 hours per week. Annual leave: 29 days per annum.
