Opportunity:
Working as a Consultant in Cardiology within the HSE (Ireland's public health system) you'll provide high-quality care to patients in this leading university teaching health service in Kerry.
This role is not a substantive post but will be a relatively long-term contract of 1 year with a view of going permanent.
Clinical Duties
1. Clinical Care
1. Diagnose and treat cardiovascular conditions such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, and hypertension.
2. Perform and interpret cardiac investigations such as ECGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, and angiography.
3. Manage inpatients and outpatients, including acute care and long-term follow-up.
4. Lead cardiology ward rounds, especially for complex or high-risk patients.
5. Participate in emergency care, including assessment of patients with chest pain and other acute cardiac events.
Leadership and Supervision
6. Supervise junior doctors, registrars, and interns.
7. Provide mentorship and training to medical students and non-consultant hospital doctors (NCHDs).
8. Lead multidisciplinary teams, including nurses, physiotherapists, and dietitians in delivering cardiac care.
9. Implement national clinical guidelines and standards (e.g., those from the HSE's National Clinical Programme for Heart Disease).
10. Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives.
11. Participate in on-call rotas for emergency cardiology services (depending on the hospital's needs).
12. Attend consultant meetings, manage clinic schedules, and contribute to strategic planning within the hospital or HSE region.
13. Work with hospital management on resource allocation, service delivery, and reporting.
14. Attend and present at conferences, keeping up to date with advances in cardiology.
15. Promote evidence-based practice among peers and trainees.

Essential Criteria
21. Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the speciality of Cardiology
22. Or must be on or working towards Specialist Registration of IMC
