Google is seeking an Engineering Manager for our WAN Core team to design, build, and operate Google's global private WAN network, AlphaNet.

Job Description
As a Software Engineering Manager, you will not only have the technical expertise to lead significant projects but also manage a team of software engineers.
You will work to optimize project goals, contribute to product strategy, and help develop your team.
Teams operate across areas such as information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression, and user interface design.
With your technical and leadership expertise, you will manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, oversee a large product budget, and ensure the deployment of large-scale projects internationally.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C, Java, JavaScript).
3 years of experience in technical leadership and people management.
Experience designing and implementing distributed systems.
Preferred Qualifications
1 year of experience in systems engineering (e.g., systems integration, systems testing).
Experience with networking technologies (e.g., TCP/IP, MPI, RPC, cluster computing, distributed applications, etc.).
Experience in Network Infrastructure and Software-Defined Networking.
Responsibilities
Manage a high-performing team of Software Engineers.
Provide technical guidance to the team as they design, develop, integrate, and test features for AlphaNet availability, scaling, and NPIs.
Prioritize work and ensure that incremental progress is made, even if the problems are difficult to solve in a short period of time.
Help team members and partner teams understand the broader context and solve problems on time.
Experience in software engineering, and understand how to handle errors, write tests, manage concurrency, etc.
