Biologics Manufacturing Instrumentation Engineer
A leading biologics manufacturer is seeking an experienced Instrumentation and Control Systems Specialist to support the design, installation, and commissioning of control system hardware across multiple automation platforms. The role is part of the onsite Automation Engineering Function and will involve close collaboration with projects, electrical, and process teams, as well as external vendors.
The successful candidate will serve as a key member of the Automation Engineering team, responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining high-quality instrumentation and control systems that meet regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Responsibilities:
* Serve as a lead engineer for I&C systems from field instrumentation through to control panels and HMIs;
* Lead redline reviews of loop drawings, wiring diagrams, and system architecture documentation;
* Define scope of work, bill of materials, and specifications for I&C contractors;
* Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), installation supervision, and Management of Change (MC) walkdowns;
* Coordinate and execute loop checks and commissioning activities;
* Ensure all design and project work complies with current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP), Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), and regulatory standards;
* Interface with multiple engineering disciplines and project stakeholders to deliver robust control hardware solutions.
Requirements:
* Degree in Engineering or related discipline;
* Minimum 5 years' experience in instrumentation and control systems within the pharma or biotech sector;
* Strong background in control panel design, I/O systems (4-20mA, 24VDC), and industrial bus networks;
* Familiarity with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs);
* Proven experience with cGMP-compliant engineering documentation (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs));
* Working knowledge of control system safety standards;
* Effective communicator and collaborative team player with strong organizational skills.
This role requires full-time physical presence at the manufacturing site due to the hands-on nature of commissioning and collaboration across project teams.
