Job Purpose The purpose of this role is to deliver and lead evidence-based Occupational Therapy interventions for children, young people, and/or adults within Primary Care services.
Working collaboratively with service users, families, and multidisciplinary colleagues, the Senior OT will promote independence, participation, and quality of life, while providing leadership, supervision, and contributing to service development.
Job Summary Senior Occupational Therapists in Primary Care are responsible for assessing, planning, and implementing interventions that support clients across the lifespan to reach their fullest potential.
Depending on your caseload, this may include: Supporting children with developmental, physical, or sensory needs to participate fully in home, school, and community life.
Assisting adults with long-term conditions, disabilities, or age-related challenges to maintain independence, safety, and wellbeing in daily living.
You will have the chance to work independently, while being supported by a dynamic team of healthcare professionals, with regular supervision and opportunities for professional growth.
Key Duties & Responsibilities For Paediatric Caseloads: Provide assessments and interventions for children with developmental delays, coordination difficulties, sensory processing challenges, and physical disabilities.
Support participation in play, education, and daily living activities.
Work closely with parents, carers, teachers, and school staff to develop tailored intervention strategies.
Deliver both individual and group-based therapy sessions.
Provide clinical leadership and supervision to junior staff and students.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records and reports.
Contribute to service planning, quality improvement, and audits.
Actively engage in CPD and promote evidence-based practice.
For Adult Caseloads: Assess function, cognition, and activities of daily living in clinic or home settings.
Develop tailored treatment and rehabilitation plans to enhance independence.
Support hospital discharge planning and long-term condition management.
Collaborate with Public Health Nurses, Physiotherapists, GPs, and other primary care colleagues.
Provide clinical leadership and supervision to junior staff and students.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records and reports.
Contribute to service planning, quality improvement, and audits.
Actively engage in CPD and promote evidence-based practice.
Requirements: BSc or MSc in Occupational Therapy.
CORU Registration (essential).
Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience.
Previous experience in Primary Care, Paediatrics, Adult Rehabilitation, or Community Mental Health is highly desirable.
Strong clinical reasoning and organisational skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
A client-centred, collaborative approach to care.
Full clean driving licence and access to a vehicle for community visits.
