About Community Law and MediationCommunity Law and Mediation is an independent community law centre established in 1975, operating nationwide from our offices in Coolock, Dublin 17 and Henry Street, Limerick. We are now seeking new board members with close links to the communities that CLM works with and for. We are particularly interested in meeting candidates from our local communities in North Dublin and Limerick.Opportunity: Board MembershipWe are seeking people who are involved in their communities in a volunteer or professional capacity and have a good understanding of the challenges their communities face and the ways in which they could be supported by CLM’s services. Our core services include legal advice and representation on housing and homelessness, social welfare, environmental law, unequal treatment and children’s rights. We also carry out complementary community mediation, education and policy work. The Board is keen to increase its diversity as well as maintaining its focus on grassroots issues affecting our communities. The successful candidates will join an effective and dedicated Board, focused both on maintaining the organisation’s 50 year legacy of supporting underserved communities and its future strategy in developing new dynamic services to meet the needs of our communities as they are today.Key ResponsibilitiesEnsuring the charity is operating in line with its charitable purpose for the public benefit.Ensuring that the charity is complying with its governing document and is well‑managed.Overseeing the charity's strategic direction and budget.Acting in the best interest of the charity.Acting with reasonable care and skill.CommitmentThere are seven meetings of the full Board every year – five online and two in person, usually in Dublin City Centre. There are also sub‑committees focusing on Finance & Administration and Audit & Risk. Previous experience of being on a management board, charity finance, strategy and governance would be useful but not essential.
