Principal Engineer - Automation
A hybrid role, 3 days on site, combining technical expertise with strategic thinking and strong leadership skills to develop and implement automated solutions that improve operational efficiency and product quality.
Responsibilities
* Drive a culture of automation, innovation, and continuous improvement by providing technical oversight of multiple automation projects and supporting engineers developing and implementing projects.
* Develop and implement automated solutions that improve operational efficiency and product quality through deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and strong leadership skills.
* Design, lead, and manage engineering programs from concept to production readiness.
* Mentor and develop engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
* Become a technical leader for engineers working on automated systems, overseeing automation projects from conception to execution.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities and prioritize initiatives.
* Develop technical solutions for complex problems, requiring in-depth analysis of variable factors.
* Lead the design and implementation of automation strategies across projects.
* Design, develop, test, and refine automated systems, sub-systems, and components.
* Support code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards, developing and maintaining automation frameworks and tools to streamline processes.
* Create documentation for automated systems to facilitate standardization, such as Dynamic URS, simplified change control, and system specifications meeting standards.
* Source, investigate, and implement technological and automation advances as a technological expert.
Requirements
* BS in Engineering (Level 8 Honours Degree)
* Minimum of 8 years of experience in automation engineering/systems.
Preferred Qualifications
* Strong understanding of control systems like Allen Bradley & Siemens, and industrial automation. Proven experience with PLC, SCADA, HMI.
* Ability to lead significant projects and initiatives.
* Willingness to source, investigate, and implement technological advances. Capable of leading a multi-disciplinary team.
* Effective decision-making and technical leadership skills, with negotiation and influencing abilities.
* Experience in Automated Packaging, Lamination, Vision, and Micro-assembly is desirable.
