OPPORTUNITY #### CIVIL PROJECT ENGINEER #####
My client is an engineering consultancy business specialising in renewable energy and sustainability projects. Currently, their project base includes onshore wind, solar PV, energy storage, and grid infrastructure projects. They are continually monitoring related sectors, including offshore wind, hydrogen, renewable heat, and transport, with a view to expanding the company when the right opportunities arise.
About the Role
We require a civil engineer to work on the delivery of wind farms, solar farms, energy storage, and power grid infrastructure projects. The role will involve civil engineering design reviews, site assessments, reporting, and providing technical support to the project management team in taking projects through the pre-construction and construction phases. The majority of our projects are located in Ireland, with some in the UK.
Responsibilities
1. Provide civil engineering support on renewable energy projects during planning, pre-construction, and construction stages.
2. Review designs of civil and structural engineering elements of renewable energy projects, including roads, drainage, geotechnical design, wind turbine foundation, solar PV piling and mounting structures, and other related infrastructure.
3. Review designs of substation buildings, compounds, and equipment plinths against ESB, EirGrid, and Building Regulation requirements.
4. Attend construction meetings both on site and remotely.
5. Carry out site visits to monitor and review general progress and quality of contractors’ construction works.
6. Perform building inspections and steel and concrete inspections.
7. Provide input for the preparation of Employer’s requirements and other technical documents for inclusion in construction contracts.
8. Support the PM team with the review of tender documents from civil contractors.
9. Support the PM team in managing construction interfaces between contractors and other project stakeholders.
10. Assist the civil engineering and project teams with project cost estimates and tendering for design services.
11. Liaise with clients, contractors, site investigation companies, and statutory bodies such as Inland Fisheries, OPW, or TII.
12. Build up a strong understanding of the Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP) and Principal Designer (PD) roles.
13. Provide support to the team in relation to health and safety and quality documentation, including carrying out design risk assessments and on-site risk assessments and site audits.
14. Assist with desktop studies of proposed and existing wind farm, solar farm, battery storage, and substation projects.
15. Assist with the preparation of tenders and specifications for various engineering contracts for renewable energy projects.
16. Support with the preparation of civil engineering, site layout, and route survey drawings by the CAD team.
17. Proficiency with AutoCAD is desirable, and experience with Civil 3D, Revit, Autotrack, and Infraworks would be beneficial but not essential.
Person Requirements
1. Educated to degree level (minimum Level 8) in civil engineering (essential).
2. Minimum 3 years’ experience in civil engineering roles (essential).
3. Civil engineering experience of renewable energy or civil engineering infrastructure projects would be a significant advantage.
4. Working towards chartered membership of a professional body.
5. Hold a current driving licence.
6. Safe Pass and manual handling training (essential).
7. Enthusiastic, self-motivated, strong interpersonal skills.
8. Ability to work effectively and flexibly within a small team environment.
9. A keen interest in renewable energy and sustainability is desirable.
10. Able to work from our Dublin office (hybrid working possible).
11. Flexibility in relation to travelling and working on sites across Ireland.
12. Legally entitled to work in Ireland.
