Position Overview
The Technical Sales Specialist will drive sales growth through the specification and promotion of our lighting products to architects, consulting engineers, lighting designers, specifiers, and electrical installers. This role combines technical design expertise (30%) with business development and relationship management (70%), requiring a professional who can both design and sell complex lighting solutions.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and manage relationships with architects, consulting engineers, specifiers, and electrical contractors to secure product specifications and project opportunities.
* Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the commercial, architectural, and industrial lighting sectors.
* Prepare and deliver technical proposals, product presentations, and lighting designs to meet client requirements.
* Write and coordinate tenders, bids, and quotations, ensuring technical accuracy and commercial competitiveness.
* Provide technical support and guidance on lighting system design, energy efficiency, and compliance with relevant standards.
* Collaborate with internal engineering and design teams to ensure optimal solutions are proposed and delivered.
* Manage the sales process from lead generation through to project closure and after-sales support.
* Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and emerging technologies to inform strategic sales planning.
* Achieve and exceed sales targets and performance KPIs.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (preferred).
* Proven track record in technical or specification sales, ideally within the lighting, electrical, or building services sectors.
* Experience in designing electrical or lighting solutions is highly desirable.
* Strong understanding of lighting design principles, controls, and specification processes.
* Experience in tendering and bid writing for large-scale projects.
* Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
* Strong commercial awareness with the ability to close high-value deals.
* Proficient in MS Office, and experience with lighting design software (e.g., DIALux, Relux) would be an advantage.
* Self-motivated, target-driven, and comfortable working independently and as part of a wider commercial team.
