Position Summary:
To clean and reprocess Reusable Invasive Medical Devices (RIMDs) across all areas of the hospital in line with HSE National Standards for the reprocessing of RIMDs
Responsibilities
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
The candidate shall be instructed and trained on site and will be required to report to the Decontamination Manager and/or persons designated
To assist in the production of sterilised and high level decontaminated medical devices for use in all clinical and other assigned areas designated by the Hospital
Collecting used items (where alternative arrangements are in place, these will continue to apply, as appropriate)
Cleaning of trolleys and storage shelves, the autoclaves, the gas plasma steriliser, washer disinfectors for instruments / flexible endoscopes and any other equipment within the department as directed by department management
Packing - making up of requisite packs for theatres, wards, and all other hospital Departments as required
Clean, Decontaminate and sterilise RIMDs in line with department procedures
Clean and Decontaminate Endoscopes and Probes
Stocking shelves of sterile supplies, non-sterile disposable items and assisting with stock control and requisitioning
Maintenance of records, where appropriate, in line with departmental policy
Overview Of Duties
Collection and transportation of used medical devices from user areas
Decontamination of used devices using mechanical and manual methods
Decontamination of Endoscopes using mechanical and manual methods
Inspection and function testing of devices.
Any discrepancies or faults to be reported immediately to supervisor
Assembly and packaging of devices for sterilisation
Loading and unloading of sterilising equipment
Recording of relevant data in appropriate log books with full clear signature of operative
Distribution of processed devices
Operation of mechanical processing equipment including washer-disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners and sterilisers
Handling and storage of raw material components
Taking, recording and delivering phone messages as required
Compliance with Health & Safety procedures and observance of requirements for personal hygiene and Hospital Infection Control
Compliance with HSE Standards and Recommended practises for Decontamination of RIMDs ****
Other appropriate duties as may be assigned for time to time by the Hospital
Successful candidate may be required to reprocess medical devices in other areas of the Hospital including Endoscopy and St. Joseph's Hospital as required
Qualifications
Selection criteria outline the qualifications, skills, knowledge and/or experience that the successful candidate would need to demonstrate for successful discharge of the responsibilities of the post.

Mandatory:
Decontamination Course - HSELand.ie - levels 1 and 2 or other certified Decontamination Course
Previous experience working in a comparable Healthcare Environment
Ability to work noncore hours (shifts) Nights, Weekends and Bank Holidays
Desirable:
FETAC Level 6 Decontamination
Evidence of working in a decontamination / sterilisation unit in a hospital of similar size
Other 3rd level qualifications applicable to the above named post
