About the Role:
The Commercial Underwriter plays a key role in underwriting small to medium-sized Property, Liability, Miscellaneous and Commercial Combined risks for both broker and direct clients. The position involves assessing, pricing and managing risk in line with IPB's underwriting appetite, while delivering a high standard of service to Member clients and supporting wider underwriting and business objectives. In addition, the role includes a small element of consumer underwriting, covering core personal lines such as Motor, Home and Personal Accident for both direct and broker channels.
Fitness & Probity and Conduct Standards
IPB Insurance is a financial institution regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland. As such, this role is regulated and subject to the Fitness and Probity Standards as set out by the Central Bank. These standards require that individuals performing Controlled Functions (CFs) are competent, capable, honest, ethical, and act with integrity. In addition, the role is subject to the Conduct Standards introduced under the Central Bank (Individual Accountability Framework) Act 2023, which apply throughout the course of employment. Accordingly, this role will be subject to enhanced pre-employment screening procedures, and there will be an ongoing requirement for the role holder to maintain both fit and proper status and adherence to the Conduct Standards throughout their employment.
To be successful in the role you will be accountable for:
* Underwriting and managing Property, Liability, Commercial Combined and Miscellaneous risks for small to medium-sized direct and broker clients.
* Managing a designated portfolio of Member clients with a measured and pragmatic approach to sensitive cases.
* Evaluating, pricing and underwriting Motor, Home and Personal Accident risks at a high level.
* Taking ownership and accountability for underwriting decisions in line with IPB's Risk Appetite and Underwriting Licence.
* Applying disciplined risk assessment to support sustainable portfolio performance.
* Ensuring accuracy and clarity in policy wordings and endorsements to maintain contract certainty.
* Building and maintaining effective relationships with brokers, clients and internal stakeholders.
* Supporting Senior Underwriters and contributing to team objectives.
What we're looking for:
* CIP qualification (or equivalent) with membership of the III.
* 3-5 years' experience in Commercial and Consumer Lines insurance.
* Strong technical knowledge across Commercial and Personal Lines products.
* Strong analytical and numeracy skills.
* Ability to manage workload effectively and meet deadlines.
* Strong work ethic, flexibility and a proactive approach.
