Overview
A global manufacturer in the pharmaceutical ingredients and specialty chemicals sector is seeking a Packaging Engineer to support packaging development, operational performance, and compliance at its Cork manufacturing facility.
The role focuses on designing and improving packaging systems for powder-based pharmaceutical ingredients, ensuring they meet regulatory, quality, and customer requirements while supporting efficient manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and optimize primary and secondary packaging solutions for bulk powder products.
Evaluate packaging materials such as industrial bags, liners, drums, fiber containers, and palletized systems.
Support packaging trials, validation, and line testing.
Provide technical support to packaging and filling operations, troubleshooting issues affecting performance or product quality.
Ensure packaging systems comply with GMP and relevant regulatory standards.
Support change control, deviation investigations, and CAPA activities.
Maintain packaging specifications, documentation, and technical standards.
Work with suppliers and procurement teams to qualify packaging materials.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance sustainability.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or similar discipline.
3–7 years’ experience in packaging engineering within pharmaceutical, food, chemical, or regulated manufacturing environments.
Knowledge of GMP and quality systems.
Experience working with industrial packaging for powders or bulk materials.
Strong problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred
Experience in pharmaceutical or excipient manufacturing.
Familiarity with packaging validation and qualification processes.
Exposure to automated packaging or filling systems.
Continuous improvement or Lean/Six Sigma experience.
