The Neonatal Nursing Role
Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Neonatal Nurse to join our team. The successful candidate will provide specialist care to newborn infants requiring additional support within Special Care Baby Units (SCBU), High Dependency (HDU), and Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU).
This is an exciting opportunity for a registered nurse with a passion for neonatal care to develop their skills and expertise in a dynamic and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver evidence-based nursing care to neonates in SCBU, HDU, and NICU environments.
* Monitor vital signs, administer medications, and manage neonatal equipment (incubators, CPAP, ventilators, infusion pumps).
* Conduct neonatal assessments and escalate concerns promptly.
* Provide feeding support including breastfeeding assistance, NG/OG tube feeding, and TPN administration.
* Participate in stabilisation and emergency responses in accordance with neonatal clinical guidelines.
* Support and participate in Neonatal Resuscitation, following national protocols.
* Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with HIQA, HSE, and NMBI requirements.
Required Skills and Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must have:
* A Registered General Nurse (RGN) qualification or equivalent.
* A strong background in neonatal care, preferably in SCBU and/or NICU settings.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* The ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Current certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Programme (NRP).
