Role Title:Grade V Server Engineer Job Reference Number:002240 Closing Date:Sunday 19th April, 2026 Purpose of the Role: To assist with implementing, maintaining & configuration of the cloud-based server and virtual infrastructure environment in the hospital. Key Duties and Responsibilities The post holder will be responsible for assisting with the implementation, maintenance & configuration of cloud-based computing infrastructure and on-premise servers in the hospital. They will ideally have great communication and analytical skills, working with the Server manager to ensure our systems are secure, available and optimised. They will work with major providers on the hosting, storing, backup of data and manage virtual environments. He/she will be a member of Infrastructure & Operations Pillar reporting to the Server Manager and Infrastructure Manger but will need to develop and maintain close links with the wider Informatics Directorate team as well as with all hospital departments. Duties & Responsibilities include: Create, develop, and implement cloud-based systems, supporting appropriate frameworks and platforms. Maintaining the highest standards of documentation, policies and procedures to support the cloud, physical and virtual environments. Monitoring security compliance with third parties including identifying gaps and monitoring remediation. Working with third party suppliers in relation to supporting the cloud, physical and virtual environments. Assist with planning and executing the migration of on-premises applications and systems to the cloud. Configure and maintain cloud infrastructure components, including servers, virtual solutions, and storage, providing technical support and ensuring the security, compliance and governance of these solutions Managing the backup and restore of hospital systems and applications as required. Develop and implement automated solutions for deployment, scaling, and management. Assist with Server Manager in developing security strategies and disaster recovery for cloud environments. Identify and resolve technical issues and weaknesses in the cloud infrastructure and applications. Playing a key role in knowledge transfer and skills development within the team. Making effective decisions and informing others of decisions that have implications to them, making sure team knows how to action them. Additionally, ensuring that the important decisions are recorded. Ensure the ongoing education, awareness, training of the relevant stakeholders, teams and staff, ensuring their understanding of the cloud environment and ownership responsibilities if applicable. Service desk 2nd line support/Call management Calls are assigned & prioritised appropriately Calls are resolved and closed efficiently All policies & procedures are adhered to Other Requirements: Ability to independently prioritise workload to ensure on time project completion. Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills, organisation skills, efficiency and works with keen attention to detail. Engaging and assisting with the Hospitals ICT support structures including all pillars and on-call support requirements. Understanding and keeping up to date with wider ICT developments both within and external to the hospital. Attending and / or presenting at ICT related conferences, training courses or events as required. Required: Each candidate must: Have not less than two years satisfactory experience in an administrative capacity within the Public Sector / Hospital / Healthcare or other environment relevant to the role And Possess sufficient administrative capacity to discharge the functions of the grade. And Knowledge/Experience of the main ICT systems in use in the Hospital ICT related Qualification or 2 years relevant ICT Experience Microsoft Azure Fundamentals / Administrator certification Proficiency with major cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure. Strong knowledge Microsoft Entra, Microsoft Operating Systems and Linux, particularly for managing cloud server environments. Experience with programming and scripting languages for automation and application development. Knowledge and experience of security protocols and procedures. Solid understanding of networking fundamentals and internet protocols. Desired: Evidence of Further education / Self Development Netbackup administration experience.
