Overview of Link Galway CLG
Link Galway CLG provides an adult day service and supported employment opportunities for adults with an intellectual disability in Galway City. The organisation provides training and supported employment in the food preparation and catering sector located in our bakery & our cafe which is open to the public. We are soon opening a brand new cafe in Galway City where we will be employing and training additional staff with a disability. Link Galway also provides day service & training supports which implements the HSE New Directions policy focusing on person centred supports incorporating community activities and integration.
Link Galway CLG is experiencing change and in the past two years, our Cafe Link Newcastle received a major makeover, our staff were retrained, upskilled while our general team expanded. Our adult day service and training centre will soon be delivering QQI training with our partners GRETB while Rethink Ireland invested heavily in us to re-establish a bakery and catering service. We now employ 16 people with an intellectual disability here in your city including in leadership roles.
Job Title & Opening
1) Instructor (Part-time Post, temporary 12month contract for 20 hours) plus opportunity to pick up additional hours across the service including our bakery, two cafes and potential additional hours in our training centre.
Rate of Pay is €15.13 per hour to start initially but this is currently under review in line with HSE/WRC Section 39 Pay Agreement 2025 where rates are reviewed and increased by 9.25% over the timespan stated in the agreement and thereafter.
The hours are likely to be over 4 days per week between the hours of 9am-3pm
Overview of Role
· Design, plan, implement and evaluate a variety of programmes which may include managing own finances, CV preparation & job interview, Literacy and Numeracy skills, Catering skills, HACCP training, independent life skills, social skills, Art & Crafts projects, QQI Training course (QQI level 1,2,3) delivery in small groups in areas of Life Skills and/or Employment/Catering etc.
· Ensure that service users Person Centred Plans are appropriate for the individual service user and are in line with the New Directions policy.
· Act as lead in the absence of the Senior Instructor.
Purpose of Role
· The appointment will be offered on a Part-time Temporary 12 Month Contract which will likely be extended subject to funding.
The purpose of this position is to provide educational development, training and life skill development services for adults with an intellectual disability attending Link Galway CLG. services in accordance with Link Galway CLG's policies, procedures, guidelines, Safety Statement and national guidelines e.g. New Directions.
Reporting To
The post holder reports directly to the Senior Instructor who then reports to the Service Manager.

Department/Location
The role will initially be based at the Sandy Road Training and Food Preparation Centre with some requirement to attend our enterprise sites across Galway City.
Authority Levels
· Act as service lead in the absence of the Senior Instructor.
· Work with all colleagues and provide direction for other members of the team.
· Work in line with New Directions Policy with regards to community integration.
· Be confident leading groups of service users while out in public.
· Design, plan, implement and evaluate a variety of programmes which may include managing own finances, CV preparation & job interview, Literacy and Numeracy skills, Catering skills, HACCP training, Independent life skills, social skills, QQI Programmes or others.
· Instruct on training programmes and courses as required. These programmes and courses will include specific skills as well as social development, personal care and community integration.
· Ensure that service users Person Centered Plans are in line with National PCP Framework and New Directions policy. Implement and facilitate the use of EASI tool for New Directions Interim Standards.
· Work positively and constructively with service users including those who present with behaviours that challenge, and participate in the planning and implementation of specific approaches and programmes designed for these service users.
· Work as part of a team where duties interrelate and overlap.
· Monitor and discuss service users progress with the service user's, family and staff attached to the service.
· Keep records and reports as may be required by the service manager or senior instructor and in line with Link Galway CLG.'s policies and procedures.
· Attend family meetings, staff meetings, and case reviews as required.
· Supervise service users at break-times together with other staff and assist in leisure and extracurricular activities as required.
· Take responsibility for service delivery to a number of service users within the adult day service and to act as part of the key-worker system in consultation with the service manager.
· Maintain high safety standards and ensure that all safety regulations are complied with. Implement and be familiar with the appropriate procedures in relation to the health and safety of service users, staff, and visitors as outlined in the Link Galway CLG.'s Safety Statement.
· Take part in relevant and approved community activities as deemed suitable for service user development.
· Undertake relevant training courses, both in house, external or on-line, as may be required to develop the necessary skills to meet service user and organisational needs.

· Previous experience working with people with an intellectual disability or in a similar field.
· An ability to instruct service users on all programmes offered at Link Galway CLG adult day service
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

· Good recording skills.
· Confident working and leading programmes in a kitchen environment
· Proficient in IT Skills as well as general office skills.
· A professional qualification eg. Degree in Training, Teaching or Social Care.
· QQI Qualification in Train the Trainer.
· Previous experience of programme development and delivery
· Key worker experience in a New Directions day service setting
Full current driving license with access to your own vehicle.
