Electrician –RTÉElectrical Services (Property Engineering)
RTÉ is Ireland's national public-service media organisation.
We are embarking upon an ambitious and exciting five-year transformation strategy to modernise how we operate and deliver our services.
Our mission is to serve as an independent source of stories, news, information, and entertainment for Ireland, reflecting the diversity of its people and providing experiences that enrich the lives of all.
This sense of purpose is supported by skilled in-house electricians who play a critical role in maintaining the electrical systems that underpin RTÉ's broadcast, production, and technical facilities.
Our electricians work within a structured electrical engineering and safety framework to ensure systems are safe, compliant, and reliable.
Meet the team
The Electrical Services Team provides in-house electrical maintenance, inspection, and fault-response services across RTÉ's broadcast, production, technical, and corporate facilities, supporting safe, reliable, and compliant operation in live environments.
The role provides skilled electrical craft services in support of RTÉ's operational and broadcast-critical electrical infrastructure, delivering safe and compliant maintenance, inspection, and fault response to ensure continuity of broadcast and business operations.
Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor, you will operate as part of RTÉ's in-house Electrical Services Team, delivering electrical maintenance, inspection, and fault response across live broadcast and operational environments.
You will participate in defined shift and day work patterns, including rostered duties and shift liability arrangements, and work within established supervisory, permit-to-work, and escalation frameworks.
You will liaise with Engineering Managers, Broadcast Operations, and approved specialist contractors to ensure works are delivered safely, compliantly, and without impact to live services.
About the role:
Carry out planned preventative maintenance, reactive works, and periodic electrical inspections across RTÉ's LV electrical infrastructure, with particular focus on broadcast-critical data centers, technical areas, studios, and transmission-support environments.
Support the safe operation, resilience, and compliance of electrical systems serving mission-critical broadcast facilities, including essential power distribution, UPS-supported circuits, generator-backed supplies, and monitored electrical systems.
Undertake inspection, testing, and verification activities in line with statutory requirements, ET101 / I.S. ***** Wiring Rules, Safe Electric obligations, and RTÉ electrical standards, supporting audit readiness and regulatory compliance.
Identify defects, non-conformances, and emerging risks during inspections and maintenance activities, escalating findings through Electrical Supervisors and engineering leads to support risk mitigation and business continuity planning.
Execute all works within strict electrical safety and governance frameworks, including permit-to-work systems, control of hazardous energies, isolation procedures, lock-out arrangements, and change management within live broadcast environments.
Support planned outages, resilience testing, and system upgrades within broadcast-critical and data-center environments, ensuring works are coordinated and controlled to minimise risk to live services and operational continuity.
Maintain accurate technical records, inspection reports, and asset information, contributing to compliance assurance, fault trending, and continuous improvement across the electrical estate.
About you:
Fully qualified Electrician holding a QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft – Electrical (National Craft Certificate).
Demonstrable experience working on LV electrical systems within industrial, commercial, or technically complex operational environments.
Strong practical understanding of electrical safety principles, isolation procedures, and statutory compliance requirements.
Proven ability to work methodically and safely in live environments where system availability and business continuity are critical.
Experience working within structured engineering or maintenance teams, following documented procedures, permits, and supervision.
High standards of workmanship, attention to detail, and a professional, safety-focused approach to technical delivery.
A full clean driving licence (Class B).
Nice to have
Experience working in broadcast, data centre, utilities, or other mission-critical environments with high availability and resilience requirements.

Safe Electric Qualified Certifier (QC).
Experience in using computerised maintenance management systems, building management systems, electrical documentation control, and compliance or inspection reporting tools, including the Microsoft 365 environment with SharePoint and Power BI, to support audit readiness and governance requirements.
