About the Employer:
Galway County Council is responsible for the administrative area of County Galway, excluding Galway City. The Council is responsible for the planning, design and construction of roads, drainage facilities, housing, fire stations, libraries and burial grounds. In accordance with the Irish system of local government, which encompasses both democratic representation and public administration, Galway County Council as a local authority performs both a representational and operational role. The representational role of Galway County Council is performed directly by the elected members of the Council. In accordance with the Local Government Reform Act 2014, a new system of Municipal Districts came into effect from 1 June 2014, following the local elections on 23rd May 2014 which increased the number of Councillors from thirty to thirty-nine and these were elected for the five local Electoral Areas.
County Galway is the second largest County in Ireland having an area of almost 6,149 square kilometres, with a coastline stretching to almost 2,000 kilometres. County Galway has the largest Gaeltacht population in Ireland. The population of the Gaeltacht area in Galway County has the largest proportion of daily Irish speakers at 29 per cent.
About the Role:
The Senior Executive Engineer National Roads Project Office (NRPO) is a specialist role at senior management level who will manage and lead the design team(s), oversee team resources, and advise on training needs. The Senior Executive Engineer shall ensure their team(s) operate in an efficient and effective manner. The Senior Executive Engineer shall ensure the delivery of an annual programme of works as determined. The Senior Executive Engineer will report to and be subject to the direction of the Senior Engineer on the day-to-day administration of National Road Projects assigned to the National Roads Project Office.
The Senior Executive Engineer will lead a project team(s) in the management of assigned road projects and will be responsible for the management of their team(s). The Senior Executive Engineer will work closely with the NRPO Senior Engineer.
About You:
Candidates shall on the latest date for receipt of completed applications:
(a) (i) hold an honours bachelors degree (level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ)) in Engineering accredited at CEng or CEng with FL level by Engineers Ireland*;
OR (ii) hold an ordinary bachelors degree (level 7 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ)) in Engineering AND a post-graduate masters degree (level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ)) in Engineering;
OR (iii) hold a masters degree (level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ)) in Engineering attained after completing an integrated masters level programme of at least 4 years duration and which is accredited at CEng level by Engineers Ireland or an equivalent accreditation body internationally;
OR (iv) have achieved the registered professional title of Chartered Engineer and be registered on the Register of Chartered Engineers of Engineers Ireland or of a professional institute of another country and recognised by Engineers Ireland as of equivalent status.
(b) have at least seven years satisfactory relevant experience of engineering work;
(c) possess a high standard of technical training and experience;
(d) possess a high standard of administrative and management experience;
(e) have a satisfactory knowledge of public service organisation or the ability to acquire such knowledge.
