The mandate
A leading international energy and infrastructure organisation, headquartered in Ireland, is expanding its data centre capability as part of a wider energy transition, resilience, and security strategy.
This business already operates at scale across power generation, grid services, and regulated infrastructure. Data centres now sit at the centre of that strategy, where energy security, decarbonisation, and digital growth converge.
This is a senior appointment with a clear brief.
To establish, structure, and scale data centre operations within a safety‑critical, highly governed energy environment, and to own how that capability is delivered across Ireland and Europe.
The role
As Operations Director for Data Centres, you will take full accountability for operational delivery across the organisation’s data centre portfolio.
You will work closely with executive energy, infrastructure, and commercial leadership to integrate data centre delivery into wider power, grid, and energy transition strategies.
This is not a single‑project role.
It is about building a sustainable, repeatable data centre operating model.
Key responsibilities
Lead operational delivery across data centre construction and energy‑enabled digital infrastructure projects
Build and develop a dedicated data centre operations and delivery function
Establish governance, assurance, and operating models aligned with regulated energy environments
Define standard operating procedures from early engagement through construction, commissioning, and handover
Integrate data centre delivery with power generation, grid connection, and energy resilience strategies
Act as senior client interface with hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise operators
Own programme performance across cost control, quality, safety, risk, and compliance
Provide forward visibility across pipeline, resourcing, and delivery commitments over the next two to four quarters
Support long‑term growth of the data centre portfolio in line with energy transition objectives
This role carries full accountability for how data centre capability is built, governed, and delivered within the organisation.
Candidate profile
This role suits senior leaders who combine data centre delivery credibility with energy or infrastructure governance experience.
Relevant backgrounds include:
Operations Director, Programme Director, Project Director, or Senior Contracts leadership roles
Delivery of complex data centre construction and commissioning programmes
Experience operating within regulated, safety‑critical, or highly governed environments
Strong understanding of power generation, grid connection, energy resilience, and sustainability requirements
Proven ability to build teams, systems, and delivery frameworks from the ground up
Commercial and operational leadership across forecasting, cost control, risk, and assurance
Confidence engaging with hyperscale clients, utilities, regulators, and executive stakeholders
Backgrounds spanning energy transition, power generation, utilities, data centres, or mission‑critical infrastructure are particularly relevant.
