Mechanical Design Engineer, Data Center Engineering
AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We’re the people who keep the cloud running and support all AWS data centers, servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure continual access to innovation.
We’re hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer to design resilient, cost-effective mechanical services systems for the world’s cloud platform. You will transform complex technical challenges into elegant, efficient solutions that support global cloud computing infrastructure. You’ll justify and communicate technical decisions to senior management and drive continuous improvements in design. This role supports a fast-paced, dynamic work environment and offers opportunities for professional growth and learning.
At AWS you will be responsible for multi-million dollar designs that support our businesses and customers. Ingenuity, quality, speed, and cost are key. If you can design a mechanical system, understand critical equipment needs for a data centre, and grasp constructability across varying designs, you may be a good fit.
Key responsibilities
Be a leader within the group as well as within internal and external teams that support our data centres.
Work with internal teams to understand user requirements.
Participate in site selection reviews.
Manage design consultancy firms to create, review and release data center designs.
Manage change, versioning and configuration control.
Work with local utilities to understand and define site utility requirements.
Define and approve project scopes, RFPs and RFIs.
Work with local Agencies Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) to ensure compliance with city/county requirements and building codes.
Work with commissioning teams to validate installation, operation, and performance of systems.
Work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions; travel for site reviews and engineering evaluations, audits, and site launches.
Review and approve equipment submittals; troubleshoot problems and conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective Action (CA) for design-related issues.
Define project scopes and provide support during construction phases.
Collaborate with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify appropriate mechanical equipment.
Provide technical support for information requests during construction phases.
Communicate clearly and proactively to drive solutions within the team and across groups.
A day in the life
Imagine your day as a creative problem-solver, where every design decision impacts millions of users worldwide. You’ll collaborate with diverse engineering teams, translate complex technical requirements into groundbreaking mechanical systems, and drive technical solutions that push the boundaries of data center engineering.
