The Basic Grade Occupational Therapy post is a key appointment in the development of a comprehensive/effective service for children with complex needs. The role contributes to providing a quality service to enable children to realise their potential by working as part of an interdisciplinary team in a family-centred practice model.
Responsibilities
* Attend and work the days and hours at the centre(s) to which the post is assigned and at other centre(s) as directed by Line Management/CEO, subject to review.
* Report to your line manager as requested.
* Adhere to legal, ethical and professional practice standards as stipulated by CORU.
* Maintain relevant standards for own practice.
* Manage and prioritise within own caseload and as part of the team.
* Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, evaluate and monitor treatment programmes for service users in conjunction with families/carers and relevant staff.
* Provide day-to-day service within allocated service areas.
* Promote positive staff morale and teamwork in collaboration with line management.
* Foster and maintain professional relationships with colleagues, managers, and other health and education personnel.
* Ensure quality documentation of assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, reports and discharge summaries in accordance with local policies and standards.
* Communicate results of assessments and recommendations to the team and others according to service policy and guidelines.
* Participate in teams and integrated models including service users, families/carers, and other staff.
* Attend clinics, review meetings, team meetings, case conferences, etc., as designated by line management.
* Participate in IFSPs, team assessments, and interventions for allocated caseload.
* Plan interventions based on assessment; provide universal and targeted interventions as part of an interdisciplinary team.
* Provide direct OT intervention on individual, group and consultative bases; provide reports on outcomes.
* Maintain files on service users in accordance with the record keeping policy.
* Organise visits to home, school or work to determine needs and plan interventions in line with service policies.
* Monitor and review service users’ changing needs on an ongoing basis.
* Adhere to policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines for quality improvement and outcome measurement.
* Seek advice and assistance for duties beyond scope of competence, in line with evidence-based practice and clinical governance.
* Ensure confidentiality, ethics and legislative compliance in professional practice.
* Operate within the scope of Occupational Therapy practice as set out by CORU and in accordance with related policies, procedures, and guidelines of the Foundation and the Children’s Disability Network Teams.
* Engage in performance management systems within the service.
* Carry out other duties as assigned by line management.
* Promote teamwork and a culture that values diversity.
* Contribute to and support families in developing programmes and plans (e.g., IFSPs).
* Keep and provide statistical and other information as requested in a timely fashion.
* Be fully aware of and compliant with current child protection and safeguarding legislation and local policies.
* Behave professionally, showing respect for clients and their families.
Education and Training
* Identify, in consultation with line management and clinical supervision, own training needs and undertake training for continued professional development.
* Conduct research and development in the field as agreed with the Head of Discipline for OT & CDNM.
* Participate in development and organisation of relevant training for families, staff and others as required as agreed through the line management system.
* Avail of and participate in supervision as agreed with the OT Head of Discipline and CDNM.
* Understand limits of own competencies and consult with supervisor as needed.
Health & Safety
* Promote a safe working environment in accordance with Health and Safety legislation and related policies within St. Joseph's Foundation and any service reconfigurations.
* Be aware of and implement agreed policies, procedures and safe professional practice by adhering to relevant legislation and standards.
* Participate in risk management, identify risk issues with the line manager, and implement risk controls.
* Report adverse incidents in accordance with organisational guidelines.
* Be familiar with fire drill procedures including detection, evacuation and fighting fires.
