Responsibilities
Oversee the launch of the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) in 2025, working closely with global AWS teams and influencing the evolution of AWS services and technology. Collaborate with technology leaders to enhance day‑to‑day operations and improve the availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC. Participate in on‑call rotations to resolve incidents occurring out‑of‑hours.
Eligibility Requirements
Fluency in written and spoken English.
Candidate must be a national of an EU member state and reside in the EU to operate the AWS European Sovereign Cloud.
Amazon will provide relocation support for successful applicants relocating within the European Union.
Employees will participate in an on‑call rota.
Basic Qualifications
National of an EU member state.
Demonstrated expertise in systems engineering working with hardware, software, networking, and operating systems.
Experience scripting processes in Bash, Python, or Ruby.
Solid understanding of Linux and networking, able to troubleshoot and anticipate problems that affect performance, reliability, or availability of software systems.
Able to lead the creation, revision, and improvement of standard operational procedures (SOPs) and drive operational best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with monitoring frameworks (e.g., CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic).
Experience actively mentoring junior engineers and working cross‑organizationally, leading strategic team efforts.
Experience supporting services in AWS or other cloud systems.
Experience operating 24x7 high‑availability distributed software applications, performance tuning, and optimizing fleet utilization.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar).
