Description
Team Overview: The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) department is dedicated to ensuring the wellbeing of all employees, contractors, and visitors across every project and site. They develop, implement, and monitor safety policies, risk assessments, and compliance with legal and industry standards. By fostering a strong safety culture and promoting environmental responsibility, the HSE team plays a critical role in protecting people, reducing incidents, and supporting sustainable business practices throughout Alternative Heat.
Role Overview: With projected growth, we are seeking a proactive HSE Officer to grow with the business to manage all health, safety, and environmental aspects across these projects, to ensure compliance, reduce risk, and promote a culture of safety & wellbeing throughout our operations. The HSE Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive safety and environmental programs to ensure safe and compliant workplaces. This role involves monitoring regulatory compliance, minimising workplace hazards, promoting a culture of safety, and ensuring environmental standards are met or exceeded. The candidate will collaborate closely with their line manager and our in-house teams, throughout client engagement and all stages of decarbonisation projects, underfloor heating projects & maintenance/service contracts as they grow to develop and deliver effective HSE management arrangements. These arrangements will ensure compliance with both client‑specific and legal requirements, guaranteeing the safe delivery of on‑site projects and maintenance programmes. The HSE Officer will establish strong relationships through regular site visits, providing dedicated support and expert guidance on all HSE matters. Reporting to the HSE Manager (Decarbonisation), the HSE Officer will work closely with project delivery teams, client representatives, and the wider HSE department to ensure a safe, compliant, and sustainable operating environment within this rapidly growing sector.
Job Title: Health, Safety and Environmental Officer (Decarbonisation Projects)
Location: Dundalk, With Site Travel Required.
Hours: Monday-Thursday 8am-5pm and Friday 8am-3pm.
Salary: Competitive depending on experience.
Responsible to: HSE (Decarb) Manager - Business Unit 01
What You'll be Doing
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) functions within the Commercial M&E, Building Services, or Construction sectors. The candidate will demonstrate a strong ability to implement, maintain, and develop robust HSE programs across large‑scale, complex contracts. The successful candidate will have extensive experience working collaboratively with project teams during all phases of pre‑construction and construction, including risk assessments, site inspections, compliance monitoring, and incident management. They will be adept at influencing key stakeholders and driving a positive safety culture to ensure regulatory compliance and the wellbeing of all personnel. A key strength will be the ability to communicate, influence, and engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels, promoting a proactive and positive safety culture across the business. This role requires a strategic mindset and the capability to ensure HSE principles are not only followed but fully integrated into operational planning and project delivery.

Develop, implement, and maintain HSE policies, procedures, and programs aligned with legal requirements, industry standards, and client expectations for Decarbonisation projects across multiple locations (UK and Ireland).
Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and audits to monitor compliance and identify areas for improvement.
Lead on incident investigations, root cause analysis, and reporting, ensuring timely corrective actions and continuous improvement.
Provide expert HSE advice and support to project teams during all phases including design, offsite prefabrication, modularisation, and onsite installation.
Collaborate closely with HSE officers, operation teams, client representatives, and subcontractors to embed safe working practices and environmental stewardship into daily operations.
Drive HSE training and awareness programmes to build competency and engagement across all teams.
Facilitate client HSE audits and site visits, acting as the primary point of contact for all health, safety, and environmental matters.
Support the expansion of HSE best practices as the company grows into new locations and regions within Europe.
