Job Description
Wexford County Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Executive Architectural Conservation Officer. As a key member of the local authority, this individual will play a vital part in preserving and protecting Wexford's rich built heritage.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert advice on architectural conservation and planning matters. This will involve working closely with various stakeholders, including local communities, owners of protected structures, and other council departments.
Key duties will include:
* Assisting in regeneration and development programs for historic towns and villages;
* Contributing to heritage-based projects that form a central part of tourism strategies;
* Providing stewardship to ensure protection and use of protected structures through advice and grant schemes.
This role requires a deep understanding of the importance of preserving our cultural heritage and a passion for delivering high-quality results. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a strong ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Required Skills and Qualifications
To be considered for this exciting opportunity, candidates must hold a recognized qualification at Level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) in a technical discipline related to the built environment, such as architecture, structural engineering, or spatial planning.
Alternatively, they may hold a recognized postgraduate qualification at NFQ Levels 9 or 10 in a subject area such as archaeology, history of art, or architectural conservation.
Candidates must also demonstrate five years' satisfactory experience relevant to the post, preferably in a role involving architectural conservation and planning.
Other essential qualifications include a satisfactory knowledge of architectural heritage, design, and conservation, strategic planning, and urban design, as well as a high standard of technical training and experience.
