Purpose of Position: To provide academic supports to students with a disability or a specific learning difficulty in the National College of Ireland. To foster an inclusive approach to academic development and develop policies and procedures aimed at enhancing equity of opportunity for students with disabilities. Reporting to: Head of Student Support & Welfare Key Relationships: Head of Student Support & Welfare Director of Student Registry Registrar Library Staff Faculty Stu dents Exams team Student Support Team Key Responsibilities: Provide individual tuition to students with disabilities in the area of study skills and related matters. Design and deliver workshops on key academic support issues i.e. study & research skills, note-taking, learning technologies, academic writing, analytic skills, exam & revision techniques, etc. Provide online and telephone support to students who are unable to attend an appointment in the IFSC campus. Research and develop good practice policies relating to effective academic performance, e.g. supporting students with specific learning difficulties. Work closely with Learning and Disability Support Service Team on the creation of needs assessments for incoming students with disabilities. Record information on the demand for the service, common issues addressed through the service, number of sessions provided etc. for analysis purposes. Maintain accurate files to track the progress of each student to statistically analyse the performance of the service. Work closely with faculty to mould the service to the specific needs of individual classes, to address pertinent issues within the Schools, and to develop policies to underpin the College's commitment to providing an innovative and inclusive learning environment. Assisting with the promotion of Universal Design for Learning Principles across the College. Maintain a proactive relationship with relevant professional bodies and communities of practice such as the Disability Advisors Working Network (DAWN), Academic Learning Support Officers Network (ALSON) and AHEAD. Responsibility for regular reporting to the HEA in regard to the Fund for Students with Disabilities. Including managing tenders for services provided under the fund. Compiling annual AHEAD Participation Rates Survey. Manage NCI's responsibilities within the Disability Access Route to Education scheme. Taking part in staff development activities as appropriate. Key Attributes: A degree or relevant professional qualification is essential. Experience of working with students to develop effective learning strategies is essential. Experience of teaching at second level or third level is desirable. Ability to think and plan strategically. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Ability to motivate and inspire students is essential. Excellent organisational and leadership skills. Excellent MS Office skills - particularly Teams, Word, Excel and Po werPoint. Flexible approach to work Experience of working with students with disabilities or specific learning difficulties is a distinct advantage.
