Join to apply for the Relief Chef / Weekend Chef role at The Good Shepherd Centre Kilkenny.
Job purpose: To support the kitchen team by preparing and serving high-quality meals during weekends and relief cover. The role ensures that all food is prepared to a high standard in compliance with HACCP regulations.
Responsibilities
* Prepare, cook, and present meals to the required standards.
* Ensure all food safety, hygiene, and HACCP regulations are followed at all times.
* Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, including equipment and storage areas.
* Monitor stock levels, rotate stock, and assist with ordering as required.
* Work collaboratively with the kitchen team and cleaning staff.
* Ensure portion control, waste minimisation, and cost-effective use of ingredients.
* Primary responsibility for running the kitchen when on duty.
* To ensure that the nutritional needs of the residents are met.
* Cover for the Head Chef or other team members when required.
Requirements
* Previous experience working as a Chef (ideally in a busy kitchen or catering environment).
* Knowledge and experience of HACCP and food safety standards (must have HACCP certification).
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Strong organisational and time-management skills.
* Flexibility to work weekends and provide relief cover as needed.
* Understanding of the issues related to working with the services users and a willingness/capacity to work with service users.
* Passion for food, creativity, and high standards of presentation.
Desirable
* Experience in catering for large groups.
* Previous experience of working in a social care environment.
* First Aid and/or Manual Handling training.
* Knowledge of dietary requirements and allergen management.
