Join a leading life science manufacturer as an Automation Engineer (Long-Term Rolling Contract).
As a Senior Automation Engineer, you will develop, test, and install control system software changes with supporting documentation for validated manufacturing systems. You will also provide hands-on support to operations for automation-related issues on highly automated production lines.
Primary Tasks
* Develop machine control software involving servo, pneumatic, and data control.
* Collaborate across multi-functional teams to deliver projects on time and to the highest quality standards.
* Develop, debug, and validate control system software programs in compliance with GMP/GxP requirements.
* Analyse, understand, fault-find, and modify automation software.
* Provide technical expertise, clear documentation, and strong communication across teams.
* Mentor and train less experienced staff members.
* Monitor and analyse opportunities for process improvements and implement innovative solutions.
* Deliver multiple tasks to tight schedules while maintaining budget discipline.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and develop machine control systems including servo motion and high-speed device integration.
* Develop, test, and install PLC and control software within a high-volume, 24/7 validated production environment.
* Generate User, Functional, and Detailed Design Specifications in line with GAMP standards.
* Write high-quality PLC and HMI code from detailed specifications.
* Lead automation project teams, making informed decisions on hardware and architecture selection.
* Troubleshoot complex automation equipment to maintain uptime and efficiency.
* Ensure all automation work meets GMP/GxP standards and medical device quality system requirements.
* Drive NC/CAPA closure and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
Skills, Abilities, and Education Requirements
* Bachelor’s degree in Automation Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
* 5–6 years’ experience with automated control systems in machine design.
* Strong PLC background: Allen Bradley ControlLogix 5000, Allen Bradley Guard Logix, APT, Siemens S7, Elau, Pilz Safety PLCs, and HMI software such as Wonderware Intouch/ArchestrA and FactoryTalk View.
* Knowledge of GMP, GxP, and GAMP standards in automation design, testing, and documentation.
* Experience with Servo Motion Control, robotics, vision systems, printers, BCR, data analytics, and RFID systems is a plus.
* Skilled in validated environments with disciplined change control practices.
* Strong problem-solving, organizational, and documentation skills.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
