The Donkey Sanctuary Ireland (TDSI) is part of an international animal welfare organisation dedicated to caring for donkeys and mules worldwide. We are seeking a flexible and proactive individual with strong equine skills and experience to join our Veterinary Department at Hannigans Farm near Liscarroll, County Cork. As a New Arrivals Groom, you will care for and rehabilitate donkeys, mules, ponies, and hinnies, and maintain the facilities within the New Arrivals Unit, hospital, and hospital boxes.
About you:
* Knowledge of equine care, especially animal husbandry.
* Confidence and ability to manage and handle donkeys and mules with special needs, including relinquishments and private donkeys.
* Proficiency in operating machinery and equipment such as tractors, trailers, norcar, blowers, and strimmers.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
* Full, valid driving license.
About the role:
Your main duties will include:
* Handling donkeys and mules with special needs, including relinquishments and private donkeys.
* Preparing and administering medication and feeds as directed.
* Assisting with laboratory sample collection.
* Supporting veterinary staff, dental technicians, and farriers as needed.
* Helping the New Arrivals Supervisor maintain a safe working environment through risk assessments and adherence to Health and Safety regulations, as well as security protocols.
* Keeping up-to-date manual records on donkeys, biosecurity, holidays, and overtime.

This is a full-time, fixed-term contract starting as soon as possible until 28 January 2026, working 39 hours per week, 5 days over 7, with weekend shifts included in the rota.
