Naval Service Marine Engineering Officer Opportunity
This is a leadership role that requires a qualified Marine Engineer to oversee engineering operations at sea and ashore. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and performing critical onboard systems, ensuring operational readiness, and supporting the Naval Service mission.
About the Role:
* Serve as Head of the Engineering Department on board during sea postings, forming part of the ship's senior management team.
* Lead and manage Engineering Branch personnel, oversee technical operations, and maintain key ship systems including propulsion, power generation, fuel, water, ventilation, air conditioning, and hotel services.
* Be responsible for training and readiness for fire and hull breach scenarios, and the maintenance of related systems and equipment.
* Following sea rotation, take up a shore-based appointment within the Naval Dockyard, Naval College (NMCI), or Naval Base, focused on project management, maintenance planning, or technical research.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee the operation and maintenance of engineering systems, including propulsion, power generation, and life support systems.
* Develop and implement strategies for improving engineering performance and reducing costs.
* Manage and supervise a team of engineers and technicians, providing guidance and direction as needed.
* Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless integration of engineering systems and processes.
Requirements:
* Citizenship: Irish citizen or legally entitled to work in Ireland.
* Character & Fitness: Must meet medical, physical, and security clearance standards.
* Age: Under 50 years.
* Qualifications: Certificate of Competency (Marine Engineering Officer) Class 1 or Class 2, or equivalent marine qualification deemed by the Minister for Defence.
Benefits:
* Basic salary: €57,955 with annual increments.
* Naval Service Allowance: €20,570 (tax-free).
* Additional allowances for overseas service: Starting at €15,000.
Recruitment Process:
The recruitment process includes a competency-based interview and Garda vetting. Assessments will be conducted at the Naval Base, Haulbowline Island, Cork.
