Senior Pharmacy Technician - UPMC Whitfield

Overview of role:
We are currently recruiting a Senior Pharmacy Technician for UPMC Whitfield Hospital.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
* Ensure the care and safety of patients is the highest priority at all times.
* Understand, model, and promote UPMC core values: Quality and Safety, Dignity and Respect, Caring and Listening, Responsibility and Integrity, Excellence and Innovation.
* Support the safe and cost-effective management and monitoring of new medications on the UPMC formulary.
* Assist in establishing and maintaining systems for managing medicine stock shortages and promoting standardization of Pharmacy Technical services across UPMC sites in Ireland.
* Supervise requisitions, prescriptions, extemporaneous compounding, stock control, procurement, and pre-packaging activities.
* Ensure pharmaceuticals are received, checked, stored, and handled in accordance with best practices and legislation.
* Develop, maintain, and audit SOPs for all pharmacy technical services.
* Define standards for service delivery, develop KPIs, and support staff induction, training, and performance management.
* Participate in performance reviews, address deficiencies, and support professional development.
* Lead and innovate in pharmacy service improvements, coordinate daily operations, and foster teamwork.
* Mentor staff, ensure HR policies are followed, and support the Pharmacy Transformation Strategy.
* Liaise with other departments, participate in accreditation, and promote sustainability initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience:
Applicants must possess:
* (i) Pharmaceutical Technicians Diploma from the University of Dublin, or
* (ii) Pharmacy Technicians qualification at QQI Level 6 from recognized Irish institutions, or
* (iii) Pharmacy Services Certificate (NVQ 3) from the Irish Pharmaceutical Union, or an equivalent qualification.
Additionally, candidates should have at least 3 years of hospital experience, relevant knowledge, a clean driving license, and flexibility to work across UPMC sites.
Desirable Criteria:
* Management and leadership training or experience.
* Experience in procurement, broad pharmacy practice, and line management.
* Strong planning, leadership, communication, SOP development, change management, and performance review skills.
