Job Title: Network Engineer, Operations & Support, Optical
Locations: Dublin, Ireland; London, UK; Full Time
Responsibilities:
1. Network Monitoring: Monitor Optical Long Haul and Metro networks, and troubleshoot various issues in a timely manner.
2. Fault Isolation: Perform fault isolation based on troubleshooting outcome.
3. Issue Resolution: Coordinate with smart hands and optical equipment manufacturers to resolve issues and restore service.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work cross-functionally and cross-regionally with other optical and network operational support teams.
5. Service Restoration: Partner with and escalate to various Facebook teams in pursuit of restoring service and limiting impact.
6. Critical Event Management: Manage and escalate critical events while communicating clearly and concisely.
7. Process Optimization: Document and optimize operational processes and procedures.
8. Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the creation of monitors, alerts, dashboards, and metrics to drive continuous improvements.
9. Automation Identification: Identify areas for automation and create or participate in the solution with scripting or coding skills.
10. Deployment Support: Support deployment for migrations and augmentations.
11. Inventory Management: Partner with audit teams to ensure accurate inventory and documentation.
12. Oncall Duties: Perform follow the sun oncall duties for all operational pillars.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. DWDM Platform Knowledge: Knowledge and experience of DWDM platforms.
2. Optical Operations Experience: 10+ years of experience of optical operations experience.
3. Fiber-Optic Technology Knowledge: Knowledge of Fiber-optic technology including cable types, connector types, optic types, and optical transport technologies.
4. Troubleshooting Skills: Experience in analyzing situations, troubleshooting, systems, and tools, and problem solving.
5. Documentation and Communication Experience: Documentation and communication experience.
6. DWDM Transport/Transmission Networks Knowledge: Knowledge of DWDM transport/transmission networks as well as transceivers.
7. Network Management System (NMS) and Element Management System (EMS) Knowledge: Knowledge with the Network Management system (NMS), Element Management system (EMS) and CLI interfaces of different optical vendor platforms.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Unix Systems Administration Experience: Experience in Unix systems administration with scripting in Python and/or C, C++.
2. Network Analysis and Troubleshooting Skills: In-depth experience with network analysis and thorough troubleshooting skills.
3. Third Party Management Platforms Knowledge: Knowledge of third party management platforms for Layer 1 equipment.
4. Large-Scale Production Network Environment Experience: 3+ years of experience of relevant work experience in a large-scale production network environment.
5. Network Operations Knowledge: Knowledge of Network Operations.
6. Autonomous Working Experience: Experience operating autonomously, demonstrate analytical skills, coupled with a sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
7. Subsea Operations Experience: Experience in Subsea Operations, Deployments, and Technology.
8. Wet Plant Management Experience: Experience managing and operating wet plant including BU's, WSS ROADMs and Repeaters.
