Job Description
Our team is seeking a highly skilled Automation Specialist to support our continued growth and success in the water, wastewater, and clean technology sectors. This role will involve designing, specifying, programming, simulating, testing, and start-up assistance for automation and control systems at municipal and industrial facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop IO lists, hardware specifications, and PLC HMI programs from FDS or Control Philosophy documents.
2. On-site commissioning of PLC systems alongside electrical engineers.
3. Implement code changes on automation systems under change control procedures.
4. Provide technical support to process engineers and other disciplines on automation issues.
5. Operate according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) for site engineering and maintenance.
6. Collaborate with different disciplines to deliver automation projects following guidelines.
7. Generate documentation and SOPs for automation systems.
8. Assist the tendering department with hardware specifications and programming estimates.
9. Manage automation project specifications, development, installation, and validation within budget and guidelines.
10. Support operations with technical queries related to PLCs & HMIs (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Schneider, Unitronics).
11. Assist engineering staff with field bus/communication protocols, SCADA packages, M2M platforms.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Key skills and qualifications required for this role include:
* Working knowledge of PLC & HMI systems: Allen Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Schneider, Unitronics.
* Field bus/Communication protocols: CanBus, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Profibus, CC-link, Modbus, Ethernet IP, ProfiNet.
* SCADA Packages: Wonderware Intouch, Indusoft, Citect, Broadwin, Iconics, OPC Servers.
* M2M Platforms: Leased Line, GSM, GPRS/3G, Broadband, Fibre, Radio modems, Telemetry.
* SQL, Web Browser, VB Script, SMS functionality.
Additionally, we are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:
* BEng in Engineering or equivalent, or trade-qualified Electrician.
* Open to graduates or electricians looking to upskill.
* Experience with PLCs and vision systems in operational environments.
* Full driving license.
