Job description: Fabrication Chargehand / Assistant Supervisor
Location: Cental Engineering, Carlow
Contract: Fixed-term (12 month contract)
Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Chargehand to support the Site Manager and Fabrication Supervisors in overseeing the fabrication process at Cental Engineering, Carlow, for a major project. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring operations run smoothly by assisting with team coordination, monitoring work quality, and maintaining safety standards. They will also collaborate closely with the team to execute production plans and help resolve on-floor issues swiftly. This role is ideal for a hands-on individual who is ready to step up into a leadership support role in a heavy-engineering modular build environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Organize daily tasks and allocate resources, ensuring production plans are executed efficiently.
* Act as a point of contact for the team, relaying instructions and resolving any issues that arise during the production shift.
* Monitor the progress of fabrication work on the shop floor to ensure quality and efficiency targets are being met.
* Ensure that fabrication work adheres to technical drawings, design specifications, and quality standards.
* Coordinate with electrical teams for integration points.
* Conduct basic quality checks and alert the supervisor of any non-conformities or potential rework areas.
* Promote and enforce safety procedures on the shop floor, ensuring a safe working environment in line with QEHS regulations.
* Ensure that the team has the required materials, tools, and equipment for production tasks.
Key Requirements:
Experience:
* Minimum 3+ years of experience in a fabrication or production environment, preferably within heavy-engineering or modular build industries.
* Experience with interpreting technical drawings and ensuring compliance with production specifications.
* Prior experience in a leadership or charge hand role is advantageous but not essential.
Skills:
* Strong practical skills in fabrication and manufacturing processes, with a keen eye for detail and quality.
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and assist in identifying potential issues before fabrication begins.
* Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with supervisors and team members.
* Basic problem-solving skills with the ability to act quickly and effectively on the shop floor.
* Awareness of health, safety, and environmental standards in a production environment.
