OverviewThe Infrastructure Architect will lead the design, development, standardisation and ongoing improvement of the company's on-premises infrastructure. This role focuses on creating a secure, reliable, scalable environment across networking, compute and storage platforms and virtualisation, as well as other core infrastructure services.The successful candidate will act as a technical authority, working closely with the Platform Operations team and other business areas to ensure the infrastructure meets current and future organisational needs.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the planning and implementation of on-prem infrastructure modernisation initiatives, including networking, virtualisation, and core compute/storage platforms.Define and maintain the on-prem infrastructure architecture, ensuring alignment with business, performance and security requirements, including service availability, recovery, restoration and disaster recovery.Provide guidance on best-practice architecture, capacity management, and resilience.Design and oversee on-prem network topology, ensuring performance, availability, scalability, and strong security controls.Support the implementation and management of network authentication mechanisms including certificate-based authentication, 802.1X, RADIUS, and secure wired/wireless access.Design firewall/gateway strategy, including segmentation, policies, and secure access, with emphasis on security best practices.Act as a SME for key network technologies, including (desirable) firewalls, switching, and related equipment.Help design the on-prem computing and storage platforms, including hardware standards for multiple workload requirements, including VDI and Remote Session services, running CAD and engineering applications.Lead the design, improvement, and administration of virtualisation platforms, especially VMware vSphere and its enterprise features (e.g., DRS, vMotion, distributed switching).Ensure infrastructure is fully documented, monitored, and governed by appropriate standards and processes, such as Change Management.Work with other IT Ops members to implement SLA and metrics across the infra stack.Support troubleshooting of networking, computing and virtualisation issues.Collaborate with security teams on network hardening, monitoring, and incident response.Provide input on technology roadmaps and contribute to long-term IT strategy.Mentor and support technical staff on networking and virtualisation best practices.RequirementsEssentialExpertise in designing and managing on-prem infrastructure environments, including hardware.Strong hands-on experience with enterprise networking, including routing, switching, segmentation, and network security.Experience implementing certificate-based authentication, RADIUS, 802.1X, NAC, and related security protocols.Extensive experience virtualisation platforms (including VMware vSphere).Strong understanding of firewalls, VPNs, and secure network architecture.DesirableCompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA certificationsVMware Certified Professional - Data Centre VirtualizationPersonal AttributesGood communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Detail-oriented with a focus on solution quality, performance, and maintainability.Proactive mindset with the ability to work independently and drive improvements.**H&MV Engineering is an equal opportunity employer**Seniority level Mid-Senior level Employment type Full-time Job function Human Resources Industries Construction
